Live updates: Brush fire burns in Pacific Palisades as Santa Ana winds blast Southern California - Live video at link

I get that. But the bowl landscape of SLC causes inversions. There's places outside of SLC in the wasatch range that doesn't have the weather affects SLC has.
Yeah but they chose a very pretty spot.

Insurance only covers the value of the structure, not the value of the land. Most of the value of those properties is their locations, not their houses.
That's a good point but it's also worth noting that the cost to rebuild is probably now many multiples higher than the original construction cost of the structures. There are probably all sorts of grandfathered code exceptions going up in flames right now too.

Let me clear some things up: this is happening in a mountainous area with lots of forests and shrubs. This isn’t happening downtown, this isn’t happening in any urban areas. It’s a part of LA that could be the set of a wild west movie.

GOD FUCKING DAMMIT

I JUST STARTED WORKING AN EMERGENCY ROOM CONTRACT JOB IN THE AREA
There have been no injuries so far. This is more of a property damage catastrophe, not a death toll catastrophe.
Do they not do brushland cleanup in California, what the fuck? Theres a fire there like every day in California because I guess the firemen are only there to look hot because theyre all gay.
This is in an area full of private land so I imagine it’s going to fall on the property owners this time. It really depends on the area. But forest management can only do so much. The entire area is bone dry and short of covering the forest in concrete it will burn when there’s a dry winter like we’re having (not typical; most years it’d be raining by now).
This is just another winter in socal as the winds pick up until around late spring.
Not really. We’re overdue for rain. Late summer and fall are the typical fire months.
I'm seeing some Xitter posts talking about how schizophrenic homeless people randomly starting fires is a big problem in LA, any truth to that?
This started in the mountains and has nothing to do with homeless people. While it’s possible it may have been started by some sort of homeless camper, it looks like this is a natural wildfire.

People have been saying this forever: humans weren’t meant to live in these areas. Forest management can only go so far. There’s a reason the Indians didn’t dwell in the forests. The first thing Spanish settlers saw when they landed in California was smoke from a wildfire.

I searched the LA reddit and limited my search to one month for homeless fires.

Three results, keep in mind these are people that have the courage to post and the first post about a serial homeless arsonist seems to have a lot of confirmation.

middle-class people in the Central Valley are forced to move after a wildfire burns down their homes?
Hold the fuck up. When?!

You're thinking Northern California; it's the dumbasses that buy up in the mountains that get forced to move. Down on the flatland it's guns, God, and almonds.

The fire has burned all the way down to the coast.

The Getty Villa is being threatened but have locked all their artwork in their fireproof vault.

LAFD has suspended firefighting operations in favor of life saving operations.

Both the elementary school and the high school are now on fire.
