Both houses seem to have been paid in lump sums. I'll leave it to the reader's imagination as to the exact details of how this happened. Early on, Nick always seemed to be doing ok for himself, but everyone assumed it was from his lawyerin' money. Not rich, but not hurting.

About 90% of what we know about his employment comes from Nick, however much that can be trusted. Over time he told more and more stories about short-term stints at various banks and his absolute contempt for the people working there because they expected him to do work. After years of job hopping and fucking around he went back to get his lawyer degree and did not work during that time.
