Live updates: Brush fire burns in Pacific Palisades as Santa Ana winds blast Southern California - Live video at link

Who would want to live in this shithole of a city? You'd think people would eventually take the hint and get the fuck out of there
Imagine not knowing what love for your history and birthplace is and just fleeing whenever things get bad. As if the rot won’t chase after you. Christ so many French.

I think they'll be salivating more, once the fires are over there will be a ton of people unable or unwilling to rebuild and prime-real estate waiting for someone with money to take the land rights and redevelop/resell them for profit.
Just how the boom and bust cycle of California natural disaster aftermaths go unfortunately.

I listened to part of the press conference on a fox stream, if I were a local then I'd be fed posting. The fire chief says 'We currently have zero percent containment....' then a few sentences later, 'Now is a time for gratitude.'

What in the actual fuck is wrong with these people? Their city is on fire, people are dead, they are doing an objectively bad job, and the chief is like, "We should come together and be thankful for all our shit first responders. They are failing to fight this fire but you should still be so thankful to have us."

Also what is the deal with these sign language retards. If you have eyes to see sign language, don't you have eyes to read closed captions? And why do the sign language people make retarded faces. Like they are a clown trying to summon demons. I have trouble focusing with black Israelite Chris chan on the right trying to summon sonichu to fight hate or what the fuck ever.
Grateful that there are people brave enough to risk their lives fighting against such an overwhelming destructive force, while a bunch of fat losers sit at their computers thousands of miles away and criticize them.

The fire department can't control the weather or change the landscape, and fighting a fire of this magnitude in these conditions is unprecedented. But I'm sure they'd love to hear any suggestions you have.

There are multiple reasons they have a sign language interpreter present. There's a live audience AT the press conference. Not everyone watching on tv, especially in LA can read English fluently. For some deaf people, sign language is like their native language, it has different vocabulary and grammatical rules, and and is easier to understand than written text. Closed captioning for live tv isn't always accurate, and can move too fast. Some televisions, in public spaces like airports, restaurants, etc. don't have CC enabled.

To summarize, you're a faggot.

I would love to see what Silver Alert's cheat sheet says. Greasy Gav should get outta town, his hair is flammable.
I have a suspicion

I would strongly advise anyone who still lives in California to escape into Nevada and day trip back for whatever sentimental purposes compel them.

The entire state is at risk of wildfires AND earthquakes, has 70% of the US homeless population, and its government insists that everything is fine and they’re actually better than you
I had a friend move from CA weeks before the fire happened when he got a new job recently. I'm thankful he's okay, and I'm praying for anyone with friends and family there.

CA was always a sinking ship, but goddamn. Not only is it susceptible to several natural disasters, it's full of fucking homeless (some of which might even be in further risk because of this fire), and it's run by a government that would rather spend its funding painting trans flag colors on crosswalks than putting anything towards the citizens that need it. It really is a hellscape, isn't it?

Like, honesty, a mass fire in California of this scale isn't what I had in my bingo card, but either way, stay safe, guys.

yeah my two cents that no one asked for is this is another maui landgrab that has the side effect of murdering a few hundred to maybe even thousand homeless that will never be reported on or talked about at all

I agree. I think thats exactly what this is.

The only thing I can think of to contradict this is that the government ships the homeless around to drive down property value. Every couple of years, the area I live is flooded with homeless tweakers and then you see a bunch of signs and billboards offering to buy your house. So it doesn't benefit the bankers and politicians to genocide the homeless.

Can we all just pause and stare at this image for 1 minute?

Jokes aside I hope people can get out and get safe. As much as it's easy to say "they voted for this" remember retarded teenagers and homeless people (and cause it's California, probably illegals) votes count as much as the older homeowner whose family has lived there for decades.

All loss of human life is tragic and I hope this kickstarts getting the idiots in government there back to reality

Finally, there are the regulation-related barriers. Air board approval is one bottleneck. The experts interviewed felt that the working definition of “acceptable weather conditions” has been strict, which can cut short multi-day burn plans. There are also many local air boards around the state, and a lack of consistency can create problems for burn projects that have to involve more than one of them.

There’s some friction, in that the particulate pollution and carbon dioxide emissions of prescribed burns are counted as human-caused, while emissions from wildfires go in a separate category. There’s no offset for prescribed burns reducing potential wildfire emissions.

It’s also true that burns supported by state or federal grants have to undergo additional environmental reviews, which can sometimes hold up projects past windows of opportunity. The researchers say that the experts they talked to felt these reviews are designed for larger projects and don’t work well with prescribed burns. They were also leery of weakening environmental protections, though, so there was no clear recommendation.

They go through pretty great pains to sick this at the end of a nice size list of excuses, including solved ones, when it's clear from reading that it is the major factor.
And most of these problems are coming from the governments efforts.. imagine private interests and land owners trying to get approval.
