Don't ascribe to stupidity what is actually arrogance. Bitch didn't earn her position, she was given it by someone for being the "right type". She feels she's entitled to the prestige of being a firefighter. What happens to other people because her incompetence/inability is of no importance to her. The sad part is I know plenty of older bulldykes (and gay people in general) who just want to be left alone. This LGBTIA+QMAPWTFBBQ shit has had the exact opposite effect that they wanted. Back in the late 90's and early 2000's, being gay was more controversial but no one really cared as long as you weren't a criminal or an asshole. If you lived in a super conservative area, you left and that was that. Now, people seem to genuinely fucking hate gay people at a deeper level and a greater scale.

EMS has more gays and lesbians than any other first responder service. My best friend in this industry is openly gay. One of my favorite partners at this hospital is a 50 year old lesbian. Both of them are top tier providers (and Trump supporters funnily enough) but I haven't seen a serious difference in race/gender/sexuality when it comes to this work. You can either hack it or you can't.

We have to carry people a lot though, so these mother fuckers need to carry their weight. They usually do. Firefighting is a different beast entirely. I don't think women should be firefighters or cops, generally. Great exceptions to that rule exist, but for every awesome female cop or hose monkey I know there's 20 more that have no business being there.

Diversity goes out the window when shit hits the fan. I don't care what color my patient is and they don't care what's between my legs when they're fucked up. They need help and they need help from someone who can unequivocally do the fucking job.

On the subject of SCOTUS, you can track the Uniparty increasingly hardballing and misleading Trump by his nominees. Gorsuch was a -good- choice, Kavanaugh had some issues but largely is a good pic and even in his decisions I disagree with he at least reasons them,. Barret is a coin flip on what she will do and more often than not will side with the Democrat justices for 'unity'.

Short version: International pressure especially with the end of the cold war means that foreign aid is contingent on human rights (not applicable to russia), domestic legitimacy (also works as an approval rating), it allows them to gather information on opposition. Competitive local elections like in Russia and China help reduce corruption and give them someone to blame. In Iran's case they can elect a reformer as controlled opposition to make reforms and if they fail its not the ayatollahs fault.
Democracy advocates are OK with rigs elections because they think it's better than nothing and might actually lead to protests.

If you're asking seriously, the answer is this: Putin cares about keeping the appearances of democracy. It was very important at the beginning of his regime, when he did not have the complete power he does now, and he sees no reason to upset the apple cart which got him to where he is now. He also values systemic opposition (versus non-systemic like Navalny and Kasparov), as it allows for a non-threatening release valve for allowable dissent, as well as providing suitable avenues to change policy as needed in a seemingly legitimate manner rather than by fiat (say, by having elements of the United Russia coalition pivot towards the Communist or Socialist's planks). Also, having politicians besides Putin craft laws and policy in areas that do not strongly concern him (for example, regional issues of water and land management) gives them something to do other than just be rubber stamps.
