Live updates: Brush fire burns in Pacific Palisades as Santa Ana winds blast Southern California - Live video at link

So it's possible this is against some law. I just can't name a specific law.

Telephone Consumer Protection Act is the main act that covers telemarketing. In this case, some random company looking up your deed online, googling your name to get your number and then calling you isn't breaking the law. It gets very lawyeresque as to when it would kick in but it's legal.

probably won't have utilities for a while (plastic pipes melted etc)

This is an underrated comment. Telecoms aren't going to be able to inspect the copper or fiber lines until all the rubble is cleared from the easements in order to do an assessment and then figure out when DWP is going to do the same since the power, water and sewer tend to be deeper than conduit. DWP has to reinstall power and w/s to the takeoff point to each lot before the telecom can can lay new conduit, but, for the telecom, they can wait longer since I don't *think* they have to serve a given area under a franchise agreement and unless there is a financial interest to do so, why would they? But these days, who wants a lot where you can't get high-speed internet, so you get a bit of chicken and egg thing going on. Starlink and fixed 5G is fine, in theory, but most people and pretty much every business, school and other heavy data user want a wired connection.

Some might have been too fucked up on fent or whatever, and it wouldn't surprise me if some died trying to loot too and went to hell already pre-baked. But yeah the reasonably sober ones probably fucked off before most of the homeowners could load their shit into their SUVs.

When they are high on only god knows what, actually yeah kinda.
Well, guess the poster isn't going too get their death fantasy numbers. As a real world wildland firefighter, we try to get people to safety, away from the fire. Regardless of their status or that some retard wants them to die. The homeless can die somewhere else but not if the fire crews can help first. Saving lives matters more than some retard's internet laughs.

I don't want to de-rail the thread too bad, my parents are awesome, they regularly come hang out with our group of 30 somethings and drink beers and such. But I do wonder how much damage I could do replying to one of those texts or calls if they fucked up and I was an addict or a deranged tranny that hated them for being Trump voters or something.
The short answer is alot.

Well that fucking sucks but it honestly shows how heartless these real estate companies are. These people need time to grieve, recollect themselves, and process the situation.

Could you imagine being retarded enough to fly a drone into a firefighting plane? California has some of the worst narcissists. My guess is someone looking for that perfect instagram or tiktok clip.

The Los Angeles Fire Department released a statement regarding the drone strike.

"Today, January 9, 2025, at approximately 13:00 hours, Quebec 1 was struck by an unmanned drone not assigned to the Palisades Incident," LAFD spokesman Erik Scott said. "Immediately following the collision, Quebec 1 returned to Van Nuys Airport with wing damage and no injuries. Quebec 1 is now out of service until further investigation and repair," he continued.

The strike was reported Thursday on the third day of the wildfire, one of six burning in Los Angeles County. The aircraft landed safely, but remains grounded for repairs.

Interfering with firefighting efforts on public lands is considered a federal crime punishable by up to 12 months in prison.

"The FAA treats these violations seriously and immediately considers swift enforcement action for these offenses," the agency said in a statement. "The FAA has not authorized anyone unaffiliated with the Los Angeles firefighting operations to fly drones in the TFRs (temporary flight restrictions)."

The Palisades Fire is the largest burning in Los Angeles County. Fanned by a Santa Ana windstorm, the fire destroyed thousands of structures in the Pacific Palisades area. At least one death has been confirmed in the fire zone.

Wasn't there a complete lake in another state that California drained for water? Is it now just a giant hole? If they just fucked up themselves it would have been bad enough, but their mismanagement fucks other states who need to foot the bill.
California is a shithole run by criminals with no check because a single party controls the entire state, and that party is run by open criminals who shit in the face of the public every day.

It is basically the American equivalent of Nigeria, a country with vast resources, but because it's run by complete retards, the only thing it brings to us is scamming and retardation and deliberately engineered "natural" disasters. Even though it took absolute retardation to turn the state into a pile of tinder. These morons actually did that ON PURPOSE!

Right, cause “regulation” doesn’t have a positive or negative value. Leftoids want to load it with a positive connotation so you don’t complain about their moves to control everything in the world, but some regulations really are completely stupid and useless
Massive regulation just allows governments to siphon money from industries. Some regulation and oversight is obviously necessary, but you can look at Canada as an example of it being perverted to almost be extortion.
It's like that scene in Goodfellas where Ray Liotta is explaining how racketeering works "fuck you, pay me". Except it's the government and you want to run a food truck lmfao
