They"

Talking about hundreds of thousands of people.

Just insane.
I don't think many people realize the scale of the damage here. This is easily going into millions of lives affected once you go into family members that now have to take care of their own that lost everything and quite possibly may have absolutely zero way to recover. This is hurting a lot of people. Not just the immediate victims of the fire. And long term, this is going to be a anchor around the entire country. We literally have to rebuild LA. Make no mistake, the feds, so you and me, are paying for that. We all are going to suffer here.

"They"

Talking about hundreds of thousands of people.

Just insane.

Anyone who spoke like this of the hurricane victims was rightfully mocked as a person driven mad by politics, a soulless bugman who couldn't see past red and blue to have compassion for a fellow human being.

I know it's scary to think that you live in a country filled with corrupt politicians, where even if you voooote for the correct one and you check the right box your ballot can get misplaced, or displaced by a dump of fakes, or disregarded some other way, or the politicians can get bought off, and all that good stuff you thought you had vooooted for never comes through, and all the hard work you do ends up meaning less and less and being worth fewer and fewer actual dollars over time. And that when the time comes that an absolute "act of God" like a bolt from the blue hits you, you could actually be helpless and NEED "daddy government" to help you- that all your prepping wasn't quite enough, that maybe it wasn't exactly what you expected it to be, or something failed or fell through. And that you, too, could end up stuck and stranded and betrayed, and even dead because of this.

But that is the human condition. And I'd be very cautious about accepting anyone's offers that claim you get to opt out of it.
Fair enough.

Reactions: Advanced Garbage
It's going to be a bad look when LA is funding and building up for the 2028 Olympics, but locals are still waiting for permits to rebuild their own homes. And you know it will be years before they get building permits for Palisades and Malibu house rebuilding.
I've broken down twice in Tennessee
I had a similar experience when my car broke down while driving through North Carolina. Amazing, generous people.

Mercury says LA wildfire losses to exceed reinsurance retention

Insurer Mercury General Corporation has said that it expects the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles, California will result in losses for the company that will exceed its reinsurance retention of $150 million.

It will be some time until Mercury has an estimate for its ultimate losses from the ongoing wildfire event, the company said today.

But, “Based on information available to date, we expect the losses to exceed our reinsurance retention level of $150 million,” the insurer said.

Mercury said that its reinsurance program provides for $1.29 billion of coverage limits on a per-occurrence basis after covered catastrophe losses exceed that retention level.

The reinsurance program also covers any assessments from the California FAIR plan and Mercury said that, if losses end up being reinsured, the program calls for reinstatements of limits to cover future loss events.

Should the full $1.29 billion of reinsurance limits be utilised, then the total reinstatement premium payable by Mercury would be $101 million, the insurer explained.

Recall that Mercury has been a beneficiary to a number of the Randolph Re series of private catastrophe bonds.

The latest of these, issued in July 2024, was a $45.5 million privately placed transaction, that provides Mercury collateralized reinsurance against wildfire losses in California, we understand.

We do not know what level that private cat bond sits at in Mercury’s reinsurance tower, so it’s impossible to tell at this stage whether it could face risk of being triggered.

But it is a rare per-occurrence California wildfire only catastrophe bond, so will likely be an arrangement considered at some risk, until Mercury’s ultimate net losses from these fires becomes clearer.

If all those "bad people who deserve to die" just go away, who is going to live there? You think it will be someone better? You will still have to share a country with them, whoever they may be. Then what?
All Lives Matter.

Why is this not a universal opinion?

Gotcha. This is is like yesterday when you falsely claimed that diesel generators are banned.

Carry on.
I don't believe I said diesel generators, I believe I said residential generators. And I was right.

And as for the red fire retardant being restricted? It is.

Again, the entire state falls under that "aerial retardant avoidance area" because every single waterway and wildlife region is going to have a "threatened, endangered, proposed, or candidate species or critical habitat."

I'm starting to wonder if some people who I thought were higher IQ are legit retarded because they think "I only see stuff on teevee about the celebs, therefore it is only the celebs who got hurted durrrr."

Any city is run by people from all walks of life by definition. Sure the K-Hive influencer got her house burned down, but the little shoe repair shop Korean who has lived there for 45 years and who you would undoubtedly find to be "based" got singed too. It's a natural disaster, not an actual laser selectively blasting specific people who "deserve" and "voted for" whatever.

2028 Olympics

For fuck’s sake. LA should never be allowed to host the Olympics, but in an election year? After Trump’s second term? At the height of the shitshow that will be the primaries? Not to mention this whole, you know, devastating fire stuff that will take years to recover from? Whose brilliant idea was this?

it's up to Mulholland, and if it crosses over the Valley is in way more danger than before. 1.8 mil people live there, it's dry as fuck rn and these fucking Santa Anas are starting to howl at the door again. Sorry to be a doomsdayfag about this, just had a hard convo with a firefighter buddy of mine who has been working this. Bro is tired as fuck and there's not enough of them.
Gee, wouldn’t t have been nice to have a few hundred of New Yorks Bravest come in to help? But the Mayor told FDNY to Fuck Off. I cannot imagine how that decision has gone over out on the fire lines.
