I never quite understood why Newsom was a powerful figure within the Democratic party/why he was frequently floated as a Democrat presidential contender (like, there were apparently high ranking Democrats who wanted him to run in place of Kamala). Anyone with basic critical thinking skills can look at California, see how much of a mismanaged sh!thole the state currently is, and realize it's the result of the policies he represents. Like, if the Democratic party is serious about winning, they shouldn't be reminding voters that Democrats run California.

Two 3.5 quakes in SF area since yesterday. Not a big deal since those are minor in size and usually there are a little over a dozen per year, but it's rare for there to be one after the other like this. I'm curious about the swarm of microquakes at the Geyers north of Santa Rosa. Have seen it swarm there before a bigger quake hits further south along one of the smaller faults because Nothing Ever Happens (tm) on San Andreas. The M7 near Ridgecrest in 2019 was preceeded by a swarm of ~3000 microquakes (<M2) two days prior to the M6 which was a foreshock to the M7 that ripped a 30 mile long surface rupture into the desert.

The Oregon State Fire Marshal stated that the inspection ensures the safety of firefighters as they battle the massive fires.

On January 12, 2025, California officials clarified that no vehicles from out of state had been turned around or refused service at Davis Mobile Equipment. All out-of-state vehicles had been serviced and were heading to or had arrived in Southern California. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection explained that these heavy-duty vehicles endure extensive travel and sometimes arrive with worn or out-of-specification components, so ensuring their safety before deployment is crucial.

Btw, they got rid of some of the flood preventing engineering on the LA River for the sake of environmentalism shit and are planning to continue that. This WILL cause the same disaster one day. You get the exact same atmospheric phenomena in Australia and Australia had their worst flooding since the 1950s not too long ago... twice in 2 years in 2021 and 2022 because of these things.
