I haven't watched Civvie for a long while and one of the reasons being is this. He hates it when people ask for him to cover games, I don't know what it is or why it makes him so angry that people want to get his input on shit and he gets really shitty and aggressive about it and I wouldn't doubt that's why his HL2 video feels like that. It comes off as insulting to people who like his videos.

When some people get too famous (yes, even eFamous people) it's quite common to develop a sense of resentment toward fans, especially today with it being easier than ever for the hoi polli to form parasocial relationships via social media and other means. Not saying that I agree this is the case with him here but Hollywood et al are filled with total assholes who resent their popularity/can't handle it. Sometimes it can just be a joke that goes too long and far and sometimes it might be legit anger but this is one of those moments where "don't read the comments/get off social media" is really, really important. Like, just close your eyes nigga hahahaha

If he wants to lash out in a video, he should make a Halo CE review, we know that he's not a fan of the game and what it did for the genere, but i think he knows he would get backlash from his fanbase if he did it, i bet at least half of them grew up with Halo and love it, so he goes for the safer option, since people are aware of HL2s criticisms yet still like the game.

Now that will be a fun episode if it ever comes out considering the historical animosity between the Boomer-Shooter and Console communities. If he was barely able to give the respect HL2 deserves then he would absolutely throw a massive passive-aggressive tantrum over Halo and probably frame it as a game people only liked due to 2000s nostalgia, ironic considering his tastes.

I still remember the forum arguments from Gen X gamers raging over how Master Chief's Alien Adventure wasn't a real FPS game and the whole thing was Microsoft's attempt to casualize the genre beyond repair for the then-emerging millennial "dude bro" markets. I'd bet a thousand bucks Civie will be resurrecting that ancient seething only to, as you said, be blasted because there are still young people who were alive when the Halo games were released.

Hopefully, it'll humble him or cause more of a spergeout, both of which will be entertaining to watch. Do it faggot! Blood for the Blood God!

Those damn home computer shooters dumbing down the superior light-gun arcade machines. How can you call yourself a true gamer if you're not holding a toy pistol in your hand? Nah but I understand, however, the genie has been out of it's bottle for a long time now.

I guess if something like internal gyro-aiming was introduced into controllers far earlier then they wouldn't have to railroad things so often due to your character turning like a snail. That's a big what-if though.

It's not just the aiming and hitboxes the size of a garage door it's also the storytelling, pacing, and level design. It's very hand holdy now and I hate shit where level starts, long ass intro and dialogue, do a thing and then you're locked in a room with another NPC or another dialogue, rinse and repeat. I absolutely despise that. Just let me fucking play the game.

Level design is a problem partly because of the limits of modern engines being able to render graphics and publishers listen to the DSP's of the world who get confused over the stupidest bullshit.

This is why there's no crouch jumping-like mechanics and you're locked in a room with giant glowing objectives spelling out what exactly to do.

The last video he made that I actually enjoyed was his Selaco video. It was the last one that didn't feel completely phoned in. He sounded like he actually wanted to make it. Every video I've watched that's come out since then has been extremely boring and forgettable to the point where I actually have skipped over more than half of them. Doesn't help he did a video on Neuro which Snakerer already covered exhaustively in a much better video 5 years ahead of him.

I could ignore the twitter sperging and the gay retard politics and the hating his fans if he still made good content but his heart is clearly not in it anymore so I actually unsubbed. I went from watching everything he does to now not caring if he uploads or not. Its just passionless sloptent with worn out gags/catchphrases that used to be funny.

More or less. The only videos I skipped (that I remember) were Selaco and now HL2. I'll still check out his next one.

Generally I enjoy the videos if it's an actual old game, especially the more obscure ones (read: slavjank). Also I like the videos where he does a rough preview of a bunch of indie shooters, but that's mainly just to get them on my radar.

Though I also wouldn't miss him too much if he never made another video. I guess ultimately he's 2nd monitor slop for me.

That's very fair. I've seen so many complain about automatic check points("muh quick-save/quick-load") and how that has ruined level designs and then there's the weapon limit. The weapons menu in HL2 was an atrocious antique when trying to juggle weapons in combat.

The weapons menu in HL2 was an atrocious antique when trying to juggle weapons in combat.

I kinda liked it with weapon categories (if I remember correctly) so it's more intuitive which button goes to what category of weapons and sticking to a category that usually suits a situation.

The best weapon cycling system for me would always be Ratchet and Clank radial menu, especially when you can customise it.

I think we all knew this movie was going to be shit, but sometimes something this bad, it deserves all the punching down it can get. I instantly tuned out seeing how dumb the film looked so I saw it was as bad as expected. Got a few chuckles like calling marvel movies "CGI reconditions of children smashing action figures together" He seemed to rightfully and honestly pity Jamie Lee Curtis.

Holy shit Clapptrap was actually worse than I assumed, like a lot. Also I had no idea about the 2019 doom movie, I know what suffering I'm going to put myself through tonight!

He's alluded to having pretty good movie taste a few times. In one of his Blood videos he slipped in an Exorcist III reference which is pretty baller.

His film taste seems pretty good imo, lots of references to not as famous stuff anymore from the 70s and 80s and disses at bad remakes/attempts by moderns to reimagine them, which is very much my jam.

Honestly I dont get all the hate he gets in this thread, I agree with the above expressed sentiment that its more his fan/community that is horrible. Some of his humor is tiresome sure, and its basic as fuck if he is your favorite game content creator, but for the bigger channels doing older games hes above average to me.

Though the people with the most interesting takes on the weirdest games are inevitably far smaller channels. Smaller channels does tend to mean less bad fan base too.
