I'm afraid there's also a cynical detractor:

The actual game designer is "Jason Anarchy" of "Jason Anarchy Games". I have never heard of him. Turning webcomics into card games appears to be one of his shticks.

"Shen Comix" is the origin of the infamous "Bike Cuck" comic.

I don’t really understand cat owners who get annoyed at their cats. I’ve never once felt like my cat is out to get me or something. Regardless, a quick google search pulls up about a million quirky cat card games, so I don’t see why the world needs another.

To 1000ft tldr this:
This guy basically puts out Webcomic monopoly.
Take existing card game, rename some items, put in one unique mechanic that probably sucks, put on target art, collect tardbux.

Just from the images it looks like some sort of Gloom or (googles) SPANC spin-off where you try to min-max different sorts of numbers on a run or trick.

Her comics are like Sonichu if it was written by an emotionally stunted 40 year old mom. The self inserts, the wish fulfillment, bitching about her life, the cringeworthy porn of her online enemies…

There’s nothing like a petulant womanchild who’s MATI. I love how she draws her critics as stereotypical Reddit mods but you just know that’s what her actual fans are like.
I was gonna say Andrew Dobson if he was a wine mom that goes on Reddit. Yours is a lot better of a comparison imo.

Ellen, if you’re reading this thread, do a blue background next comic so we know.

Oh yay. A shitty card game clone with shitty and reused art. Can’t wait to not buy it. I hope the human cards include “cuck husband”, “political opinion that no one cares about”, and “banned by Reddit mods because I can’t take criticism “

Don't forget the most powerful card in the game.

Pulling an Oatmeal, eh?

Matthew "The Oatmeal" Inman co-created Exploding Kittens in 2015, also originally on Kickstarter. I'm not an Exploding Kittens historian but first the game, and now multiple other games from the same publisher, are hugely popular. He/the team have a good read on family-friendly humor that's replayable and isn't annoying forced wackiness, or at least not too much. I don't know how much Inman is still involved but even their newer non-preschool games use his art, even if only for branding.

But for every Exploding Kittens, there are a handful of edgy webcomics who are, like @Ghostse said, just trying to cash in with Snoopy Monopoly or Smurfs Yachtzee.

Her stupid board game will probably do well because the same kind of idiots that would like her webcomic are the same kind of people that would be le epic board game adults.
ITYM "lumpy Redditors in open relationships."

I dunno if I'd say hugely popular, but I've played it and know at least two people who have it.
Exploding Kittens is what I call a stupid game for stupid people - this isn't exactly an insult.

Its stupid becase there isn't a massive amount of strategy involved. You play cards and try to get points by having the pile of kittens explode with an exploding kitten which can be canceled. Its a very simple game.
Its for stupid people because its meant it can be played with kids or while drunk/high. Its arguably not stupid enough because its a little too involved for a party-party game.

The major failing is, sort of like the retard who does the Oatmeal, is it up its own ass, with lots of wank by creator about how clever he is but also lots of fart and dick humor so

Anyway, yes he's made a bunch of games liek the one pictures or some burrito throwing game that seem really cringe and gay. but have you seen modern nerds?

I would say that he seems to be mostly unrelated to this entire mess and is merely doing his job
Least I hope so
100% a gun for hire.

This is who, in my experience, those games are popular with: parents and grandparents. IME Exploding Kittens isn't firing Power Grid; it's firing Uno and Life. I have no statistics to back me up, but I suspect families with kids are a much bigger part of the board game economy than polyamorous dorks.

Forget HRT; it's all been downhill since Munchkin.

I have no knowledge to back this up, but I bet its all a numbers game. (Pun intended.)
A game with just cards is easy as hell to produce, especially when there's probably some Taiwanese printing company that pumps out high quality board game cards as their sole business. I wouldn't be surprised if these people that make board games for Internet artists just have a bunch of prebuilt concepts ready to go that they just insert the art for when someone wants a game. The artist pays to put their art and branding on it and then its ready to go out the door with minimal effort for them, and they get to brag to everyone how they were passionate about making a game for everyone like they did something.

No Ellen, you didn't make a game, you paid someone to make a game with your art while you were posting pictures of your middle aged pussy online for attention like a pathetic wannabe egirl, and fantasizing that your haters just hate you because they want to fuck you. Not because they think you're a sad 40 year old woman with a family she likely ignores, because she needs validation like an 18 year old Internet thot.

I'll be looking forward to seeing what the goal is when the Kickstarter goes live. I've seen some games that go between $12-$15 USD that have some really high quality cards and art, so I'll be interested to see how it stacks up with a $20 price tag. The art already looks godawful because the person who made it is a hack. I'm going to predict the cheapest, shittiest cards she can get away with.

I can't wait to see what she blames when it inevitably fails.

As said above, this is exactly the case.
This guy just takes existing card concept and slaps a new skin on it.
i.e Exploding Kittens is basically a "Throw trump to take the hand; other players may override trump or attempt to unload low value cards"
Sort of like how Star Wars Monopoly or Harry Potter Monopoly or Ram Ranch Monopoly isn't a new game just different branding. But unlike those games where they at least make new tokens and hotel markers, this is just cards so it even easier, and as long as you aren't doing anything but shipping cards + instructions they factories in china/freedom china have standard workflows for this.

The artist doesn't pay though. They give rights to the company (that pays the factory that) prints this stuff in exchange for a cut of the sales. Its just literally "upload card template, upload box art, upload instruction sheet, select the box insert, done" They even have standard inserts for simple common things like meeples or other counters.

She definitely didn't make a game but I don't think she paid the dude. Most likely they entered in an agreement where Ellen was the one being hired (since she's not set up to process transactions except for $10 beejs int he men's room while her husband watches) and gets a cut of sales.
