Opinion The conservative sphere is kung-fu fighting (again) over Panda Express, UPS, and "entitled" Americans who want good jobs. Let's talk about it. - We need to have a grown-up talk about the economy.

We need to have a grown-up talk about the economy.

First, some background.

We had the H-1B visa blowup over the Christmas holiday, which our EIC handled with great aplomb.

The argument from the Vivek types was that conservatives should be for mass immigration as long as it's legal because we need "high-skilled" labor that H1-B jobs guarantee.

Opening that can of worms made millions of Americans realize that actually, while some high-skilled workers come over on H-1B visas that's the exception, not the rule. Tens of thousands of foreigners are coming over with an Indian bachelor's degree in hand, willing to take American jobs for much less than Americans cost.

Well, conservatives took a break for the New Year, but this week, the fighting started again - this time dealing with PANDA EXPRESS.

No joke!

In one corner, we have the free-market types that have the pull-yourself-up-by-the-bootstraps mentality.

Enter Chris Rufo (who I absolutely love and respect), who absolutely stepped in it with this hot take.

1.png

Young people who spent $50 or $60k getting a bachelor's in engineering should ... just shut up about not being able to work in their field while they are being undercut by foreign labor ... and get a job as a fry cook manager?

Auron MacIntyre's response was pretty brutal

2.png

Matt Walsh, who I also love and respect (Sweet Daddy I call him sometimes), sided with Rufo on the econo-bro side of the argument:
3.png

After being challenged, Walsh added this and was Community Noted for his trouble.

4.png

Rufo also gave the example of top-end UPS employees, who have a six-figure salary (with benefits and all).

I love Rufo and Matt and many on this side of the argument, but they may just be a little disconnected from the normal working man.

Fast food is hard work - I did it for years for just over minimum wage. I respect those who work there and if that's your calling, go for it.

But the reality is that your average young man, especially one that has gone to college because they were told that was the way to get a better life, isn't going to be happy working at Panda Express or UPS for their careers. They want the opportunity to advance like every other generation before them.

Now, if you're a young millennial or zoomer, you may find yourself in fast food or delivery for your entire career, even after racking up tens of thousands in useless student debt, because Ahmed and Vijay have all the entry-level American jobs that one needs to start off in a career path.

Believe me, I know people like this.

That brings me to this important story:

This is not an uncommon experience. I personally know at least one good friend with such a tale.

This isn't a dunk on Chick-fil-A or the food industry, it's just a look at reality.

A reality that many telling young men to just "bite the bullet and work your way to the top" aren't aware of.

It's not 1975, or even 2005 anymore. The advancement opportunities have been cut off for many Americans, especially if they don't fit the "genderqueer Muslim woman of color" category.

The other aspect of reality is the insane leap in expenses the past few years. Have you seen the housing market? Have you seen the cost of rent? Have you seen how it's impossible to start a family on what would have been seen as luxuriant only a decade ago? $100,000/year is the new entry-level to life, not the measure of career success.

I've watched houses in my neck of the woods double and triple in cost in just the last 5 years. How are people supposed to start out as a GM of a fast food restaurant making $75k/year when starter homes start at over $300k?

And how are TENS OF MILLIONS OF AMERICANS supposed to become the GMs of fast food joints?

Will Tanner has another interesting look at today's economic reality that some of an earlier generation might comprehend better.

15.png

That was 2011. Pre-Biden. Pre-Covid.

Things haven't exactly improved (despite the brief Trump bump).

Also, returning to Panda Express (I warned you that Panda Express is at the center of this controversy!):

16.png

Those are jobs that PANDA EXPRESS thinks are MISSION CRITICAL for the American economy; jobs that it MUST source from FOREIGN WORKERS.

Are Americans incapable of training other Americas to … microwave orange chicken and boil noodles?

It's just adding insult to injury at this point.

Even if Americans wanted to follow Rufo's advice, they can't!

17.png

I wouldn't attribute this ill-will to anyone. But it is perplexing how Walsh, Rufo, and other conservative thought leaders are fighting so hard to prop up the idea that Americans are just lazy or entitled because they want steady, six-figure jobs with 30-40 years' worth of career trajectory.

If you are an older American, think about this: Young Americans whose families have been here for generations and have advanced in each generation with new opportunities ... are taking a step backward for the first time in our nation's history.

No opportunities. No adventures. No risks to be taken. No hope of a better life. Just stagnation.

They are being relegated to jobs they could have done straight out of high school without any background in other work or education, just waiting until the day middle management tells them to train their foreign replacement at Panda Express.

It's almost like some conservatives don't understand that decades of awful policies, terrible cultural decline, and the crumbling state of the country is affecting young Americans in ways that didn't affect previous generations.

We don't need to get into all of the gritty details and numbers. Just ask anyone under 35 how hopeful they are for the future.

The answers will shock you.

Such a serious discussion to be commented by a fag.

There are issues with the economy now, but certain members of the right (not only in America, I've seen it locally too) refuse to acknowledge it and say "work harder". It's even worse when you realise the American commentators live off donations and sponsors and many didn't have a harsh job ever in their lives. Climbed to the top and kicked the ladder, then mock the ones who are still below.

The conservative movement lives or dies on this issue and this issue alone. This is more important than fag shit, religion, immigration, gun rights, and any other issue under the sun. MAGA, Trump, Vance, etc need to beat the "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" old school portion part of the party to death with a hammer. Otherwise the democrats will lie their asses back into power.

This is healthy. These are the conversations, debates and arguments we need to have. The globalist elite and libertardian grip on conservative establishment and thought has helped lead western society into near ruin. The cold war is over, we don't need hardline and ridiculous efforts against every single thing short of cut throat, sellout your family and friends capitalism. Unrestricted free trade was never a defense against leftism, it was an elite rich enrichment scheme and a one way street ensuring leftist survival! (remember that the left needs fear, pain and derangement to ever have a chance.. let alone the numbers needed for revolutions)

Unrestricted free trade (jobs to slave countries, slaves to ours) is the first thing that needs to fall in order to begin fixing things. The stock market, as is, companies traded as a commodity etc.. needs to likely go next. Or we'll end up right back here again.. and most importantly.. the bleeding and instability of main street, as well as all of us, will continue and accelerate as long as the fallacy of "inf growth" is not refuted.

Disagreeing as gun rights and immigration are more important as we're in this mess to begin with because prior "conservatives" didn't think they're that important or needed in the case of the 2nd Amendment.

Panda Express is one of the few jobs I exclusively want done by asian immigrants. I appreciate getting my Chinese(-American) food from what I assume is a Chinese(anything asian that's not also brown or indian) worker. The worse english the better. Orange Chicken please, yes I would like the veggie spring rolls and a little sweet & sour sauce. No, I will not round up to benefit Children's Hospital. Do not forget my fortune cookie and chopsticks.

Sounds like a bunch of Boomer ramblings. Those top positions often go to friends and family. People work at those low paying McJobs for years and never make manager. They have high turn over rates as well.

I don't really want to hear a bunch of middle class and upper middle class faggots or even millionaires tell me how lazy I am and how great things are. Also, these people are why I don't consider myself a Republican or a conservative. I hate these types of people. I registered as a Republican in 2003. I think after Trump I might just go back to not voting like poor white people usually do.

We need people to stop writing articles at me with this smug tone like I'm a retarded child.

Kill yourself.
This was a better article than I was expecting given the editor of the Babylon Bee was on the side of "fuck them kids".

So this is honestly a braver article than I think some people realize, as he's basically telling the managing editor there he's been an asshole about this major economic issue.

A lot of these spiritual boomers have been shitting on the idea of Americans deserving to have opportunities and treating it as pure racism for them to imagine they shouldn't have all opportunities taken from them by immigrants or non-whites. So this guy plopping in and possibly pissing off his boss by saying "hey that shit is fucked" is ballsy.

I am fucking entitled.
I am an American fucking citizen and have been my whole life. Every red cent I have payed any government in taxes has been to the US fucking government. I should absolutely be fucking entitled to the American fucking dream over some brown invader who showed up last month and can’t speak fucking English. This is my fucking home, my fucking country, my fucking land, and I am entitled to the benefits of said fucking country because I’m a fucking American.
Don’t like me being entitled? Go back to the favelas or jeetville or whatever and make it a less shitty place to live instead of being a parasite used by soulless demons to create a nation of slaves who’s only purpose is to make line go up for the shareholders.

I like how the article touches on the "just start a career in fast food" bullshit. (even Bush 2 tried that shit back in his term and got roasted by everyone but libertardians) The whole fallacy of cheaper things offsetting no and low paying jobs, is utterly bankrupt of logic and critical reasoning. $2 off my shirt, and $15 dollars off my new phone does not offset the fact that i no longer have a steady job, or that it's a little bit better than minimum wage. (something these same ghouls also want gone anyway) ESPECIALLY when the companies making these things, swearing they HAVE to outsource, make single, double and in some cases triple digit billions in profits at the same time! Which OC is not enough with current ruinous inf growth fantasies.

Something I'd like to see talked about and debunked is another favorite mealymouthed talking point dragged out every time someone talks about bringing industry back home. "Ohhhh who and how will we train them and relearn how to do it, where will the infrastructure come from? no, no... this isn't possible!" Totally ignoring the fact that in order to get us to this point in the first place, we literally go to places, 3rd would hell holes.. sometimes places without education, running water, waste treatment and even power.. and setup high-tech multi billion dollar facilities, infrastructure and more.. In fact, with most industries we have done it 2 or 3 times in the last ~50 years! My favorite was the hand waving over the possibility and ability of bringing these things back home post covid and the move out of china.. As an alternative to once again doing the same thing in India. "Impossible, now lets do so in the next 3rd world slave state instead"

It's utter bullshit and this fallacy, this FUD, needs to be called out every time it's used!

The tweet chain about being a chik fil a manager was just the tip of the iceberg. That guy was given a sweetheart deal on the gm track. The typical restaurant gm or agm is pulling easily 70-100 hours a week, inside and outside the store. I made it a point to ask the salaries of all the bosses I'd ever had, and the reality is that they pull in less than minimum wage by hours in almost every instance. Now a modest portion of this is vaping in the office time, but the brutal reality is being in the store damn near 730 am to 1030 or 3am depending on what kind of shit you're buried in that day.

I've seen the distributist make the argument that this is an issue of status too, but he probably wouldn't believe if he knew the sheer man hours that go into these kinds of jobs. You'd need to have a ride or die wife in your life before taking on such a position and let's be real, you're probably in too much debt already to own property at this point in your life, even if it's technically possible at this wage.

Restaurants and retail are such bullshit jobs nowadays that only immigrants will do them. All these businesses are structured around running half to two thirds the appropriate number of staff for the tasks at hand on a day to day basis, and salary is a goddamn tar pit and all the staff know it. Without powerleveling too much, I've know more than a couple wagies who made the most money per hour in a certain all-consuming retail chain, by keeping themselves extremely productive and gathering shittons of overtime by playing hide and seek with their managers, so they don't get sent home. How perverse is it, when your most motivated and productive people are literally running from task to task in the store, to work for 24 hours straight, just to make rent and buy an ounce of weed, to keep their life tolerable?

So tired of being told by old fucks that I don't work hard enough. I have a degree, I work 40+ hours a week in a field that is absolutely necessary for society, still can barely afford basic shit beyond my mortgage. Forget ever taking time off or vacations or any of the stuff these boomer and gen x fucks did all the time when I was younger.

Now my workplace is swarming with jeet transplants who can't even speak English well enough to talk to their patients yet somehow are considered more desirable to the company than the Americans I used to work with. It's indescribably depressing.

Wouldn’t it be nice if we had a united populist bloc with the far-left and far-right coming together on this exact issue?

Shame about all the culture war bullshit, eh? All the fag books in schools, drag queen storytime hour, and tranny-enabling. DEI. ESG. All the immigrant-loving and thug-hugging bullshit.

But maybe that’s the whole point of all that nonsense in the first place; to keep people divided over a domestic wedge issue shell game, where they swing the pendulum back and forth every four years like a hypnotist’s pocket watch.

They have us fighting a culture war because they’re scared of us fighting a class war. Gay marriage, abortion, and child mutilation don’t affect their bottom line. Wages do.

I love this conspiracy theory bullshit that people can't have different opinions about things without the rich manipulating them. As for gay marriage, abortion and child multilation not affecting their bottom line, it actually does. It's positive for their wallets. Same with the hugging immigrants part. There are more to enriching/enslaving people than just wages.

People on the right should absolutely not compromise on any of these things as ultimately, with the exception of maybe some conservative socialists, they're all for these things. And if they want to join the class war they should be the ones to drop their ridiculous policies.

What does the media keep people focused on?

COVID-19 might be lab leak and our taxes might have paid for its engineering? Here’s a cop kneeling on a black dude’s neck! Burn half the country down in outrage!

COVID-19 vaccines might be giving small children heart scarring? Quick, here’s a tranny in a Bud Light ad! Be enraged about this, instead!

Israel genociding Gaza? Uhh, TikTok is Chinese propaganda!

Every single day, the dumbest, most inconsequential narratives are amplified and the ones that actually matter are quashed. People have been conditioned to care more about whether Gillette ads are demeaning to men than whether or not the average American can afford basic fucking necessities. It’s ludicrous.
