Honestly Daniels responses do more to hurt the game then the content itself. Also a bunch of youtubers who normally would call this shit out on any other game are quick to defend it. I dont really think they are bought, rather there have been so few non-woke games in the past 5-10 years that one of the most notable ones(KCD1) is what alot of people point to as an example of how video games should be made going forward. If the developers have gone woke it gets rid of one of the only good new game franchises the "anti-woke" have, it indicates that gaming in general both AAA and indie is completely corrupted and there is no way out of it.
That's what I don't get about his responses. He really didn't need to elaborate any more than "Play the game and find out."
The fact that he's been going on such a strong defensive is just so weird. The game's graphics and gameplay looks great, it's only about 2 weeks out, and realistically no one would have remembered this shit by next week if he didn't engage with the discourse. He's Streisand effect-ing the whole thing.
I have absolutely no insider knowledge or insight into the development or publishing process, but I wouldn't be surprised if his vitriolic response truly was because the content was corporately mandated.
It was probably a publisher mandate to have more representation in the game, this being the bare minimum they'd be requested to do. I wouldn't be surprised if there was push back, maybe even from Vavra. Now something that doesn't fit in the tone or setting of the game is forcefully included(something that Warhorse is probably aware that their fanbase wouldn't be thrilled about). Vavra can't make it seem like corporate mandate (either due to pride or policy) and he's having a meltdown due to negative publicity and potentially a large influx of canceled pre-orders.
It's the only reason why I can think of that he's getting so defensive about it. If it was something that he truly wanted or thought would fit in the game, the simple response would have ended at "It's just something I wanted to include in the game." Usually when people start to try and justify or explain their decision making is because they're trying to convince themselves that a bad choice they made was actually good.
Someone really needs to take away his social media right now. Like I said before, the content is relatively tame, and probably would have blown over in a week and probably not been an issue. I don't really think this will effect the sales that much, but why even engage when you can easily take a social media hiatus for two weeks.
"Hey all, really busy getting the game ready to ship, won't be on twitter much. See you at Launch!"
-There, that's all that he needed to say. I have no clue why it's so hard for game devs (creatives in general) to have an ounce of professionalism.
