I don't particularly care too deeply beyond being pissed at how a lot of the current dogshit economic situation at home is because globohomo thinks we're pulling a sneaky on others by selling off our national stake in anything and everything. I just responded to it in sincerity assuming you meant what you said.
The bigger point being you're not just screwing over "The other guy" with bad deals that are you being super dooper clever when you allow other nations to debase and devalue labor and goods and make everyone
but you the market leader and price and trend setter for things you used to make- You have only slow burn fucked over your own people as well and made it insanely hard to dial it all back. And put yourself in a long term decline.
It's not a "The poor chinks" mission statement it's a "You have no idea how badly this is going to end do you?" statement.
There is no way to be sincerely competitive when you are operating in the same sector with a properly compensated workforce with expendable income and benefits against the cheapest drudge turd world labor pennies can buy that are doing the same shit outside of quality considerations. They have the advantage
(that we allow them to have I remind you) to operate like this. Allowing their own higher ups to sell the results to every other "Sucker" nation that produces wealth locally in order to make their money. Because the cheap drudge country produces little to no local wealth or value - It all comes from the outside and is funneled in.
This is only sustainable as long as the place they're selling to is still decently paying and compensating their own consuming citizenship base and giving their own people from bottom to top the means to buy said drudge country's exports.
So what do you think happens if the consuming and importing nation gets a visit from the good idea fairy and tries to price match and crash the goods and labor value of their own countries to that of the third world to get in on the profiteering? IE: When you've let them become the sole arbiter of the value of goods, materials and services by letting them take over your industries and outsourcing en masse?
You both crash. But
you have way farther to fall.
You
need a population of people capable of earning and buying because you can't cook the books and send a box back and forth and call it a thriving economy forever.
Even basic bitch online game economies follow the spiral down collapse pattern once you start bottoming out the worth of everything to the lowest common denominator. Nobody can buy if nobody can earn which means eventually nobody is selling or buying and that's when you're fucked and the hyperinflation kicks in.
And when your currency is all but backed by at best a feedback loop of your own GDP and peoples confidence in it - Once you tank your GDP and that confidence you're done.
THAT'S the problem with thinking you're coming out on top and beating the system by rug pulling yourself in slow motion.
This part I don't understand.
A tariff applies to an area, like the USA. If a foreign national X no longer does business in industry A from a foreign country because it is no longer profitable to sell A to the USA with the tariffs, X has an incentive to locate to the USA and work in industry A there. Is that not basically "freely hand foreign nationals who hate you the keys to your freedom"? Like, wow, you got the foreign national here now.
The difference being then they would be beholden to our laws, our labor standards and our rules and have to hire our people. Clown world current year vestiges not withstanding. If you operate on our soil there's quite a bit more precedents set and legal weight at play and implied discouragement against getting out of hand. The fact you CAN actually apply our laws and standards to them alone helps keep them more sympatico than basically running unchallenged and unchecked with their own lax standards and home field advantage.
What really let's it run rampant again is more uniparty favorite "globalism is awesome if I get a cut" rule bending for outsiders. And on the flipmode assuming the current admin doesn't back down you would tell them to pound sand if they didn't want to play ball or hire local and have a nice tight contract in advance that you can read, adjust terms and agree to for said relocation and operation in your back yard too.

A prime example being any dealing with a chinese business in their own country will be handled by chinese courts, which default near 100% of the time to telling everyone but their guys to go fuck themselves and to pay them.
There's not much to not get there imo.
