Looked around to try and find more information after reading / cut out the political speak.

The entire order reads like hopium. Beyond the proposal, apparently Biden was looking to make generic $2 drugs. Everything with the order looks to be nothing more than the Dems are looking to do something rather than it having any real affect.

i disagree with the ends well. cold war politics first let the european coal and steel community dump steel on america with no reprisals. the first year steel imports exceeded domestic production was all the way back in 1958.

then america had to give its entire manufacturing apparatus to east asia (first to japan, then to korea and taiwan/china). huge parts of the population were set completely adrift and left to fend for themselves after the factories closed and their towns were abandoned. there were coal towns in 1990s pennsylvania where city hall didn't have the money to pay for electricity to keep their lights on.

sure, the eastern bloc collapsed and dissolved, but its not like america didn't take large losses in return.
