Sony hate thread

Perhaps this is karma finally catching up to Sony and biting them in the ass for pushing Sega out of the console business
Sega got pushed out of the console business for making a series of retarded, anti-consumer decisions such as
1) Filling the Megadrive with DoA addons
2) Bad Saturn pricing
3) Not providing the Saturn to certain retailers at launch, thus ending up on their black list and limiting consumer access
4) Deciding that the best games on the saturn are too Japanese shouldn't be allowed to come out in North America (even if it was a third-party and the publisher wanted to front all the cost)
5) Not sorting out Dreamcast production and availability before launching in a weird attempt to 'beat' Sony to the punch

That's just off the top of my head. It's not Sony's fault that Sega was run by glue-eating retards.

almost doing the same thing to Nintendo back in the PS1/PS2 days
I shouldn't even need to list these off. Nintendo during the N64 and Gamecube days was consummately retarded and hostile to third-party success. The only thing that stopped them from being another Sega was having an actually good lineup of first party and second party games and the Pokemon craze.

I'm not calling you out specifically for this but I'm tired of this revisionism about late 90s/early 00s Nintendo. I was there. I bought the consoles on launch. I was ride-or-die Nintendo and it fucking sucked. There's a reason why I ended up buying a PS1 and PS2 a year after owning the Nintendo console and letting the Nintendo consoles gather dust, and it wasn't because Sony did some jewish trickery.

It cannot be understated how much the handheld side of the business and Pokemon game sales are credited for keeping the company financially afloat during the N64 and Gamecube era. Without those Nintendo would have been in a far worse situation during that time period. It is crazy to think how Nintendo has remained historically the undisputed king of the handheld market since the introduction of the Gameboy.

Then there's the fact that they merged their handheld business with their console business, which makes it entirely understandable why the Switch has sold like crazy. Not to mention a bunch of those handheld games get to charge $60 instead of the old $40 handheld price because the Switch is considered a console. Those 3rd party handheld devs must have been praising the Switch for letting them upcharge 50%.

The 3rd party handheld game market more or less collapsed with the 3DS.

Remember that the handheld market was always an opportunity for lower budget releases, the low price reflected that.

What we have today is a mix of indie ports, which are low price, and AA PS4 cross releases (or PC these days), which tend to come in below full price. NIS will release full priced AA games but then they also tend to sell dumb "limited edition" bundles with an incomplete soundtrack, fart book and cumrag to get there.

Of course Nintendo will sell Pokemon for full price.

Counterpoint: PS2, new metal gear solid, new final fantasy.
People would just not shut up, the hype was deafening.

Square Enix have confirmed FF7 - part 3 won't be PS6 exclusive. I stand by that the PS6 will launch next year.

PS5 "has no games" will soon be forward compatible with the PS6; PS6 has no games.
Sony's documents from the actiblizz merger lawsuit suggested 2027, and recent leaks seem to confirm that it's moving on schedule for a 2027 release.

I saw those leaks and they're probably correct, but I'm sticking with 2026 because I think Sony will rush it to market when the Switch 2 starts to pick up speed, the steam box released, the new xbox releases and PS5 sales are in the toilet.
Imagine going seven years with the only exclusives being a capeshit game and Niggerdykes In Space.
I rate you optimistic for thinking niggerdykes in space will be exclusive, and not remastered to be force-bundled with the PS6. Sony will say "look at how many millions of chuds were owned. Niggerdykes in space sold infinitynigger copies".

If that is even remotely true then it is an admission that the PS5 has been an unmitigated failure. Sony better figure out something more substantial that another box with "bigger number better" specs because that shit ain't cutting it anymore. The top most played games on PS5 are overwhelmingly e-sport and online multiplayer games available on PC and other platforms, you don't need the latest or greatest hardware to run those any better than currently available hardware already can.

Nintendo is most likely releasing the Switch 2 around Q3-Q4 of this year and if the rumblings of Valve readying TV box running SteamOS for this year as well then Sony will be beyond screwed because of how much more options are going to be available for the average consumer that just wants to have access to a large library of games at a reasonable price. Mind you, Sony is still banking on the fact that they have a stable of brain dead sycophants willing to blindly buy any PlayStation branded hardware despite not having any worthwhile exclusives to justify such a purchase, but that number isn't getting any bigger.

I feel 2026 is still too soon for developers to prepare anything worthwhile to showcase new hardware and as I said, graphical improvements are no longer as noticeable as in previous generations. It cost too much money and takes too much time to create high end graphics and the market doesn't seem to care that much since gatchas with animated jpegs running on a phone are raking in millions in profits. A PS6 is going to be very expensive if it releases so soon, it is going to make the PS5Pro's price look sensible.

I just can't see it, a new Sony console next year is going to be more of a nothing burger than the PS5 with even less exclusives, it is going to be another idiot-proof port box for room temperature ponycattle that only buy brand, not value.

This company just doesn't have a sense of purpose anymore, it is going through the motions without any real goals or plans, It is all corpos planning their golden parachutes and screeching activists living in a echo chamber. Playstation as a brand is going to fade into irrelevancy and they'll have no one else to blame but themselves.

Get ready for Sony to go full Sega in a few years.

Sorry in advance for the reddit-tier reply.

Sony has no games so it makes no difference how soon it is. Their 20+ studios have had five years and have produced ahandful of games. Nothing will change.

PS5pro was expensive and didn't sell. PS6 will be more expensive, regardless when it releases

This will happen anyway, be it 2026, 2027 or 2028.

Exactly, it's retarded and Sony think they're the console version of Apple. They will churn out iterative hardware because sony fans will lap it up.

Your points are all well reasoned and I agree with them, I just wanted to play devils advocate. Sony are retarded, Cerny is retiring after the PS6 launches I think he wants out sooner than later. PS5PRO was NOT a Cerny designed console.

So you had no friends to play games with I take it? Ps1 had better single player games, but when there were people over the N64 always came out.
Yeah, I was a kid during the 5th gen days. No one wanted to go have a sleepover at the ps1 kid's house and watch them play final fantasy, everyone went over to the n64 kid's house and played mario kart, smash bros, pokemon stadium, goldeneye, etc.

I had friends yeah, but sometimes I just want to sit down by myself and play a fucking RPG. Which is something you couldn't do on the N64 until four years into its lifecycle when Paper Mario came out.

Absolutely cooked library.

Not quite lol, but I get it.
