So Trump had already seen/read the MLK papers, saw that he wasn't who he said he was or even believed in what he was saying, was a degenerate, involved with communists...yet two days ago he signed the EO to officially make MLK Day a national holiday. I'm missing something here.

ETA: I wonder how long it's going to take for these blue city residents to realize that their local, state, and fed officials are putting more work into protecting illegal criminals than taking care of their own legal citizens? When will they get Chicago-fied?
Where can I read these papers? Also I'm not shocked MLK had an affair or two, these things are very common. He was supporting the integration of the races not the purity of marriage. And the communist thing I'm not shocked either, not being racist is a big thing for communists (at least so they claim). When you hang out with ducks you will get some bread thrown at you.

Federal data shows that transgender prisoners are 10 times as likely to report being sexually victimized than other prisoners.
They're linking data from 2012 here -- right before they started putting troons in women's prisons, I do believe. I bet transwomen have managed to turn that number around.

Wake up babe, new 13 50 just dropped.
NYT's programming forbids them compare the tranny crime rate to the cismale crime rate. I can't figure out how overrepresented they really are from that gibberish. ofc the only reason they can explain why transwomen commit more crimes than actual women is the ol' reliable "socioeconomic factors".

MLK Jr. day has been a federal holiday for decades, it was signed into law by Reagan.

Weighing in on some recent developments.

1. I don't know how anyone can possibly get excited about the AI superpower investment. This is my one doomer point. What we call artificial intelligence is anything but intelligent. This is a field best left to the private sector. Companies like Google, Amazon, and Apple are burning money and getting little back in return. I get this feeling that Barron Trump went down a Tiktok AI rabbit hole and now we're wasting tax dollars on gay Skynet.

2. I'm happen we may close down FEMA. Florida handles things fine without FEMA. States can operate without direct federal intervention.

3. I Trump can end birthright citizenship, continues to protect the border, and keeps up this rate of deportation then things are going to start looking up for once. He seems hell bent on clearing these fuckers out. I remember libs shitting themselves over the wall. I much prefer this Purge variant this term. It's a meme, but his Presidential Portraits for each term tells you everything you need to know.

I wonder how Trump will handle H1B visas. Has he said anything about that recently besides what he was talking about last month?
Well, they snuck something in that Illegals Crime bill that says if the federal government lowers your wages by more than $100 a year using H-1Bs (e: or F-1s), you and your state can sue for damages. Which means from now on any use of H-1Bs has to be equivalent to American workers cost-wise to the companies, or Texas/Florida/etc are all going to sue the shit out of the Fed.

Remember when the presidents granddaughter or something got carjacked in front of the White House a few months ago? And we’re supposed to act like that’s normal.
It is normal actually. I was in DC a couple years ago for a conference and The White House is in a terrible neighborhood.

Trash on the sidewalks piled three feet high, bums passed out or huddled around fires, gunshots going off.

There's a reason whenever they show the White House it's an extreme close up with everything around it carefully cropped out.

Holy shit how did Trump end up being so based in the first couple of days of his second term than the entirety of his first term?

The first term he was tricked by swamp creatures, one of which was his son and his whore daughter in law. (Isn't the the jewess, too?) He also had no idea the irrational power-games bullshit people would play, "better to rule over ashes than follow in paradise" or whatever.

Then they tried to kill him. Remember, the man's made a career out of being a vindictive bastard. And now he understands the score. He's not dealing with rational businessmen, he's dealing with the sociopolitical version of vulture capitalists, showing up to loot the company dry and flee with golden parachutes to leave everyone else holding the bag. And he knows how to deal with people like that.

Any sources on that? I'd like to read up on that more.

Any news on Trump admin's research funding policies? I can only find whining about environmentalism cuts and NIH restructuring - https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-025-00197-x (https://archive.is/3UUjM) along with the AI investment. I've heard word through friends of some bong astronomer losing a US collaboration due to funding cuts, but that particular guy is somewhat insufferable so perhaps it was just an excuse to drop him in particular.

The nature news article is particularly funny in that it goes on about how "devastating the new policy is for science" while admitting at the last sentence that machine learning quantum computing (and by extension - solid state) research is likely to strongly benefit. I know some people have been (rightfully) dooming on large scale AI investment, but the solid state/quantum computing stuff is genuinely cool - that tech can be used to make extra sensitive detectors for all sorts of things.

... Odd question. If 1% of adults are trans, how many 17 year olds are "trans?" Cause the social contagion factor makes me think the numbers are fucked now. Isn't it something like 25-40% of kids in some school districts now claim to be some form of LGBTQP?
They also claim that recognizing an attractive male as attractive (like the guys on the cover of GQ) means that you're bisexual. It's all fake numbers.

Thank you. Finally, a sensible viewpoint of MLK Jr's persona.

The pragmatic in me believes that no one person is (should be) exempt from introspection as there is good and bad in everybody involved. Perhaps the declassified documents would provide insight on MLK Jr. as a person with the context of the time period. However people interpret it is up to them.

The cynic in me, as proven here so far, is that people will just vilify MLK Jr. as an historical figure as a justification to be reprehensibly racist and ignorant of the bigger context in place. Let's be real, Americans are largely ignorant of their own history.
It’s stupid that you’re still using “racist” as invective.

I consider myself somewhat racist, and I’m in an interracial marriage with half breed Slavic and Native American kids.

Pattern recognition isn’t a flaw in your moral character. Recognizing patterns should lead you to ask questions, and I think it’s perfectly normal for a person to see some hood rat capering around a subway platform and have the idea “I better not stand next to the edge, some of these blm Americans have taken it on themselves to push people onto the tracks.”

That’s just called survival. As long as I leave room to be proven wrong in individual cases, there’s no pathology here.
