My father's side wasn't in the US until him, but they went to Canada and it's a similar story and why I'm so vocal about this issue.
My opa, God rest his soul, was born on a farm in Austria. He literally peeled potatoes on a ship, an actual fucking boat, to get over to Ontario, which was at the time known as 'Little Germany' and is now pretty much 'Little India', because that's where his sister lived with her husband. He welded and worked iron to pay for his wife and kid, my oma and my dad, to fly on a plane and immigrate to Canada. He built his business, he worked like hell, and he was respected for his fairness and his work ethic and the insanely high quality of his work. His work was built to last and there was no margin for error, even an inch off of the blueprint was unacceptable to Opa, he had pride in his work because that's the man he was. Any time we went down to Canada to visit the family my dad would point out pieces of ironwork on churches or hospital buildings or whatever and say "Your opa made that in his shop. Your opa worked on that building. Your opa laid the foundation over there" etc etc.
They wanted a better life and they worked like hell to make it happen, that's not true for these fucking H1B scammers or drug runners or welfare thieves turning where I live into the same shithole they send money back to because America is just a infinite supply of gibs to them.
