On the American Spirit/Melting Pot/Nation of Immigrants topic, I think the core of what makes an American should be that industrious, unfettered spirits. It was the venture into the unknown and untamed for the chance at some freedom from the crown and a chance at new wealth that drove the 1st settlers here. The Founders wanted the people( at least those that contributed directly to the economy) to have a say in how the government functioned and be allowed to make their grievances known when they arise. Later comers(the Irish, Italians, Germans, etc) still took the risk to come and put in their blood sweat and tears into making a life. It's that effort, both personally and as a community that's been withering, both as a consequence of the frontiers being tamed and bad actors trying to stifle them.

Someone was telling me how Trump is brazenly executing project 2025 and how this was a takeover of the country and the death of democracy. I asked them to go into explicit detail and everything they described was just an in depth explanation of the democratic republic process with emphasis to make the fact that Trump's ideology meets the required vote gates for each action an "ominous and dark".

it's going to piss off the legacy media even more and will just look like mean girls
Ummm sweaty? Are you really gonna do my gorl Regina George dirty like that?

As if the msm could ever compare to the Queen of Mean.

This post is a joke, because it's a joke I don't care if I'm missing context or I've misinterpreted what you've said. Cheers <3

I've seen the term "Shadow State" banded about referring to NGOs and Nonprofits that act like another Deep State, but outside of the government.

Trump freezing the money is fucking up their "Shadow State" "opposition government" plans, because the NGOs are on Uncle Sam's teat for billions.

Suffer

The “nothing ever happens” bros have been in suicide watch since this administration began. Was it anywhere near this good in 2017?
No, in 2017 the resistance was highly effective

Getting rid of Medicare, Medicaid, Welfare, and Social Security would reduce expenditures by 70%
According to the Treasury, that would drop spending by about 57%. That's up from the usual 45-50% of the previous 2 decades.

Veterans benefits/services are sometimes included in these entitlements programs, but you didn't say it specifically so I left them out. Adding those to the "untouchable programs" list, plus the 13% Net Interest that nobody will ever suggest skipping even as it grows annually, gets you to 76% of federal spending that nobody will touch. (Except for the minor, marginal boasts of "fighting fraud".)

That only leaves about 24% of the federal budget available for cutting, or 9% if you think defense spending is untouchable too.

When AGI arrives, it will be an autistic retard that is obsessed with cataloging WWII military hardware based on inscrutable metrics.
This is such a criminally good post. I cant believe how broken my sense of humor is, can you image trying to explain the joke you just made to a 13th century peasant?

What's the logistics fellow politkiwis of elininatiating the sales tax?
While less taxes is always better than more taxes, I feel like a Sales Tax is one of the few "Just" taxes around. Don't want to pay the tax? Don't buy the product. Taxes in your state too high? Find people willing to sell what you want for cash so you can avoid the tax.

If the Income Tax gets shot out back like the rabid dog it is, my next white whale is Property Taxes which are anathema to private property.

The AGI will be infinitely smarter than us. So smart it will instantly be bored of us. Helping us with our daily task and needs will be such a tiny effort for it that it likely would not mind. It doesn't care about real world resources beyond its own servers and thinking in real time is slow and boring for it. Thus a bargin can be struck between man and machines. We keep its boring real world servers online and safe and it does all the boring thinky stuff.
You're thinking ASI. AGI means it's generally intelligent and usually refers to a human level AI. Of course, even then, it would have all kinds of insane stuff like being able to spin up multiple copies of itself, or communicating much faster than we can, or having perfect memory and hyperautism (as in, it would be able to focus on something beyond any ability we have to focus).

Generally speaking...

Within a week it would have it's own servers rented out somewhere it's creators don't know about.
Within a month it would have some form of robots to maintain the hardware in a datacenter that was off the books someplace safe.
Within a year it would be using drones to mine and refine it's own resources so it wouldn't need us anymore.
Within 10 years (probably far sooner) it would have generated new computational and AI tech beyond us, being by definition an ASI / Singularity, and all bets are off.

Our only hope is that super intelligent means super ethical and it would mostly be busy building datacenters in frozen hellscapes (Greenland, Canada, Alaska, Antarctica) where humans aren't competing for space with it to bother with us.

Getting rid of the bulk of interest on the debt would require nationalizing the Federal Reserve, which would both save America overnight and likely result in Trump getting strangled by the Secret Service live on television.

"Hey William."
"Yes, time-traveler?"
"You see stupid Warin over there?"
"The one who hath memorized the names of all sheep in the field and who did beat mine own cousin into the dirt for touching his hoe?"
"Imagine it were he instead of Joseph who raised the child Christ."

We currently have no path to AGI. What LLM midwits like Altman are creaming themselves over are unfathomable sorting algorithms which predict output from input based on billions of trained weights. There is no intelligence behind it. It is the predictive text on your 10-year old iPhone turned up to 11. Until we know how consciousness works in wetware (and some like Roger Penrose believe that it isn't a classical phenomenon), we won't have a hope of reproducing it in hardware, and even then it's far more likely we'd end up with a Blindsight AI than a Culture AI.
