they didnt even sell 1.5 million, they say they "engaged 1.5 million players", thats corpo speak, they probably included demo players, refunds and game pass subcriptions in that number.
And even if it actually sold 3 million it would probably still lose money, bioware is a AAA studio with like 8 years of dev time on veilguard. the fact the estimate by EA was 3 million means they probably always knew this garbage would bomb and didnt expect to recoup their money.
If bioware doesnt shut down after this catastrophe of a shitshow i dont know what will. its literally their third flop in a row. And each one is worse than the last, i dont know how it can get worse, but im sure mass effect 5 will be somehow even more garbage
It should also be remembered that the losses aren't only "what we failed to recoup from the game sales", but also could include the loss of future sales from return customers to the next installment of the franchise, as well as the losses of new customers who ideally would have became customers for future games released by bioware due to reputational damage.
I know from experience that I've dropped franchises after a bad or lackluster installment, with the perfect example being the Halo series after 343 took over and released Halo 4, or after whatever the fuck happened to the Crisis series with Crisis 2. Similarly I have jumped into franchises on their 2nd or 3rd game because of good reviews and after loving the content I started following them and getting into their other games both new and old.
I haven't seen anyone post this here. EA officially stated in their press release that the game performed below 50% of approximated expectations. They hoped it would sell 3 million copies, but it sold 1.5 million. Bioware is most likely getting axed.

The thing that annoys me the most with shit like this is that there's never any accountability for these people. Flop after flop, they'll claim something is going to be/is amazing, it fails, and then they do the same thing with the next game. Even worse, when they think they've gotten a W, they'll just go off about how they were right all along, go woke go broke is a lie, etc, etc, completely disregarding the fact that the last 10 games they did this with were commercial fails. These people are openly promoting the financial collapse of the gaming industry and just can't seem to comprehend that it doesn't matter how much "positive representation" comes out of a property when the majority of these big studios have now gone literal years without releasing a financially successful game.
Like it's one thing for commies to lie and act like it's a good thing for these companies to self-immolate as they don't give a shit about the companies or their games as long as they are spreading the right message, but for the industry commentators to just blatantly ignore the writing on the wall, you'd think there'd eventually come a penance for convincing executives to waste all of this money and good will.
All I'm saying is if there was a guy I trusted to give me financial advice, and one day he started giving me advice that was losing me money with the promise that "it'll hit any day now, you just gotta stay the course and it'll all pay off", but investment after investment continued to crash and burn, and I was getting to the point where I had lost all of my profit and my savings, at a certain point I would not only stop listening to the guy, but I'd also be spreading the word to mutual acquaintances that this guy is just winging it and lying, and that people shouldn't trust him or do business with him, less they want to lose their money.
