It's sad what they did to German-American culture. Prior to WW1 22% of highschool students were in german language class, there were whole towns where everyone spoke german and hundreds of german newspapers. After the war, all gone. The American german dialect (different from Pennsylvania Dutch) is only spoken by a few hundred people as a primary language now.

Just think of how interesting it would have been to have an American/german subculture in the midwest.

There are still some regions were German language and culture are fairly strong. Cincinnati, Ohio was basically a German-like city for a long time and there are many people with strong German ancestry who live there and the surrounding areas.

It's wild that the Niihau Incident is NEVER brought up when discussing Japanese internment. The actions of 2 Japanese Americans does not justify the systematic internment of American citizens at the hands of a communist president, but I had to find out about this shit on my own.

A Japanese spy had his journal confiscated when he was spying on the Navy in San Diego (the Pacific fleet was there at the time). His numbers state that he couldn’t trust 10,000 or so Japanese Americans to sabotage American infrastructure in the war. Mind you there were a quarter million mostly in California and he had informants and co-conspirators before he fled the US.

His name was Toshio Miyazaki and a lot of the interned Japs don’t like talking about how there was some justification for distrusting the yellow menace.
