I would say it’s more accurate to say that the north and south had incompatible economic systems and interests. Most northerners didn’t care about slaves of blacks they cared about losing their jobs or having their labor devalued by someone who gets free but shitty labor. It was really a war of differing economic interests. The south would lose a ton of money if slavery ended and the workers in the north rightfully viewed slaves as a threat to their labor.
