Anime/Manga - Discuss Japanese cartoons and comics here; NO CULTURE WAR DOOMPOSTING!

Is there any modern anime series where the english dub isn't horseshit? Tried watching a few with interesting enough premises or ones I originally read the story for and the voices are just awful. It's either the voices or the editing cause sometimes the lines don't even sound like they're part of the show.

Trying to watch something with a dyslexic kid so subs are not ideal. We've tried a few from when I was young like Dragon Ball Z and Zoids Chaotic Century which they liked. Also kid did not like My Hero Academia.

Suggestions are appreciated.
define modern and what age is the kid?

It is the birthday of this character

One of the few Japanese bands I was a fan of! Their other albums were also good.

I dunno if it was the bass guitar or singing but it really resonated with me. They reminded me of 2000s American bands that I was listening to in junior high….Ahh man….Anime used to have some banger soundtracks….

Funny Bunny was my favorite tracks of theirs.

35 years was hell of a great run from them. Do K-On! fans also follow The Pillows, since some of the characters are named after their band members?

On another note, are their any mediocre or bad manga that you wished got an anime adaptation, just to see the trainwreck in animated form? Gamble Fish may come to mind for that:

I heard from reviews that the manga gets more and more nonsense later on, i.e. when supernatural abilities are introduced out of nowhere. And Barack Obama also makes an appearance later on, for who knows why.

And how would an animated version of Gamble Fish compare to the likes of Kakegurui?

I got into them for a while because of FLCL, and I remember how cool and weird they were at the time; it was like nothing else I'd heard. Just the other day I listened to Ride On Shooting Star for old times' sake, and it was cool how many of the Japanese words I can understand now purely thanks to having seen so much anime since then. If Khara had any sense, they'd have secured The Pillows for GQuuuuuX (it would have complemented the humdrum colony life scenes in the show well and could have been muh FLCL memberberries) before their disbandment rather than resorting to getting a freaking HOLOLIVE VTUBER to do the music.

Also, in terms of things ending, Shinkalion CW's final episode aired today. It was a decent show; it could have used some more action scenes, but I liked the more serious tone this time. It had great MOTWs as well as neat transformations with the vehicle armour (my favourite is probably the boat one). And, in case anyone's wondering, the final boss is Vina, Taisei's AI assistant (whose name happens to be V (as in virtual) + Ina, aka Taisei's sister aka the first villain of the show who was acting out of being abandoned by ERDA), and the MOTWs were basically angry Misfit Toys being egged on by Vina. I'll miss having a Shinkalion to watch every week, but the new Jobraver thing that's supposed to be coming out in the fall is sure to be interesting. And also, to replace the kodomo anime itch, how is Duel Masters LOST? I was originally going to ignore it but the short episode count it will be more like an old OVA series and not have the filler and poor writing and production values that plague modern anime.
Suikoden? The video game Suikoden?
No, Mitsuteru Yokoyama's samurai manga. It's decent from what I've read.

I've never seen one, but it's not surprising considering the Sengoku Period overlaps with the Age of Exploration.
That's why you mash the two together and get Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere, where the Spanish Armada is a bunch of baseball playing douchebags throwing flaming pitches (Cervantes hangs out with them a lot) and England where Queen Elizabeth is a hot blonde chick with giant tits and armor is lazy and mostly just hires the samurai of Musashi Province which is a giant airship fleet full of high schoolers with crazy powers to deal with the problem.

The hacks who made Nobunaga the Fool (an FGO-flavored shitty ripoff lacking all the intelligent parts like the diplomacy with naked people and merchant jewing) should've just adapted a season 3 of Horizon instead.

The real-life Fire Bomber!

Fukuyama did the OP song for the new Aquarion. I tried it out because the weird character designs made me curious, but it's really nothing special -- it's treading water and it has very disappointing action and launch sequences. Also on the topic of Satelight mecha, the Red Ranger isekai has TERRIBLE production values -- the power armours aren't animated with the necessary detail, and the robot's cockpit is very lazy. It's sad to see Satelight debase themselves like this by selling out to Kadokawa and making crappy manga adaptations rather than weird sci-fi like Aquarion Logos, Scared Rider Xechs, and even Girly Air Force (only decent because it had cool airplane scenes).

I finally decided to watch the Mononoke move Phantom in the rain. Was a huge fan of the series since the Ayakashi version, so I was glad it was being continued, but man... that was such a disappointment.

The shot pacing is horrendous. I feel like someone confused Mononoke with that coomer Monogatori series. The original series had tons of long shots, letting things sit and build up the tension. The movie has constant, unending half second shots, just BAM BAM BAM, like this is fucking Taken.

They also pulled a mad max and barely had the medicine seller in the movie. Instead it's a whole film about some stronk wamen dike babying a literal retard, and getting offended that the royal brothel she voluntarily applied to work for expects her to cook and clean. The movie actually stops so she can give a speech about how she wants to learn a trade like a man, and all I thought was "then why the fuck did you apply to become the emporer's concubine dipshit?" Spoiler: the mononoke was also a dike who committed suicide because she fired her roommate for being a fuckup, but later realized she loved her or something and became depressed idfk. And of course the stronk wamen MC becomes the boss of the emporer's entire brothel after literally 4 days on the job because she's just that stronk.

Oh, and the new mononoke slayer design sucks.

Apparently it's the first in a trilogy, but after that shitshow my expectations are rockbottom.

Also is there any manga about the Age of Exploration?
Pretty sure that's Uncharted Waters New Horizons (but it a goofy style not used in the game) which was a pretty cool "Koei tries to make Sid Meyer's Pirates" game on like DOS/Win 95. Story and combat was absolute ass but the world's coasts were all playable and you could even do the triangle trade if you wanted to do Jewish Slave Trader Dark RP (although it was gold bars in place of Negroes)

Also it was the most profitable route in the game so you probably should.

Anyway, the Spanish-pirate waifu playable character was pretty

I feel like you may wanna watch the movie real slow again, instead of being a "Florida man".
Anime itself is Mononoke (vengeful spirit), not Kusuriuri (medicine seller). So I don't agree on Mad Max comparison. Beside whole incident is in women area of the regional Lord palace. It isn't like kusuriuri himself can be main story telling perspective or being that active in first half of story. As you said, it's only first part of trilogy, there are still more things not explain in that weird place. The whole shrine, the well and maybe more inner palace politics.

You may lay off culture war or whatever Western internet thinking. Just because two people of the same sex hold dear to each other, that doesn't mean they are gay to each other. And "stronk women". Apparently it's really that unrealistic for women to pursue a proper occupation. If somehow Asa can write, read and put way more effort in her job than other maid not convincing enough in era where being literate is a minority. Try watching again around 29 minutes in, head maid Utayama compliments Asa not being an ordinary new - un experience maid.

Also, entire movie repeats a few times, everyone at Ooku is preparing for the Birth Celebratory Ceremony. New women (with proper pass) go there starting as servants first. Beautiful ones manage to caught attention of the Lord, then they likely go up their rank to concubine. Having some form of royal connection will make it easier. Others with less so beauty prove their talent and become head maids instead. For sake of simplicity, anime already has the Lord having eight concubines already (three in the movie) and not so much looking for new one.
I'm not sure why you'd even complaining about Asa wanting to be a scribe - head maid instead of concubine, literally 20 minutes in and at 33 minute in the movie. Movie length is 1 hour 30. I guess you don't really want any explanation for Asa motivation either or slowly teasing about Kitagawa.

The rest of movie is literally just jealousy between head maids, finding out secrets in Ooku and the slow ramping up of Mononoke due to how much Asa is almost walking in the same path of old scribe lady Kitagawa. Sacrificing friendship or "human compassion" for work.
I can give you with maybe the story being kinda lenient on Kame (womanchild) not cutting out to work in Ooku and monster fight is being try hard flashy.

What was that woman's "sin"?
Cheated on her husband (she was ordered to marry an ugly man who was this dude brother) and she gave the idea to the guy she cheated to hire some goons to fucking beat him up and give her poison to use on him when he was found out, so when she treated him he would die.

The guy cut her head, took it and delivered to her lover then cut all the government officials and the dude that caused his brother to die then became a bandit.
