Louis really needs to stop reading Reddit. He is constantly going back to a place where they will never accept him or give him a fair shake anyway, regardless of what he does short of going against his principles, so why keep doing it? If you know they are always going to look for an opportunity to tear you down whenever possible, it sounds really counterproductive to keep visiting said place, much less seeking their approval, as it is a self-fulfilling prophecy where you believe you are a failure because you frequent a place where you are constantly called a scammer, a POS, etc.

I'm sure he probably doesn't see it that way, but it seems like people in his comments do, and it sure looks that way from someone else simply looking in from the outside.

It was genuinely good advice he gave Steve, to stop accepting the premise of people who will never accept him for who he is, and stop changing his ways to accommodate them, but constantly looking to Reddit for feedback for your hard work, when you know they will never accept you, doesn't look all that much different.

As a non-American, I didn't even know this was a thing you guys had to deal with - absolute bullshit tactics from retard ISPs, holy shit can these retards just try being competitive for once in their life?
The internet in the US is pretty dire. I did rent a place about 10 years ago that just had no internet. It wasn't cheap, either, they just never got it working. I never saw the landlord bundles but never had to because there was only one option anyway.
Louis really needs to stop reading Reddit
sure but when I write a manifesto about this I'm autistic and retarded and scaring women

I agree. Looking at the thread, the first reply disagrees with OP and laments the 112k words (!) guide doesn't have "pages". (it's 160 if you print as PDF) Others complain about the pfSense choice when he explains the reasoning against OpenWRT in the page (but some complained about having to CTRL+F too), and his suggested hardware (a NUC or old x86 PC!) in the wiki is not what I would run a project that primarily targets embedded and performance-starved hardware (did they even get to that point?). Somebody else complains about "grossly incorrect information" without elaborating, and the rest seems to lament about his YouTube channel and what it's been covering. That's pretty much what you'd expect from a reddit thread, trying to reason with them is futile, it takes little to no effort to post something that millions will see and repeat and it takes too long to disprove it.

Wiki pages like those just work, they're easy to dump your knowledge into quickly and maintain, anything fancier and easier to digest can come later. And I don't think anyone without a "curious" mind (that would, for example, see OPNsense mentioned and go see why it might be better for them) would ever bother figuring out and maintaining most of the things mentioned in it, this is an very opinionated guide for somebody that has already gotten their feet wet in technology and can look up what they don't know. I've listened to a portion of his 7hrs video and it's a beautiful work of autism and passion (or, alternatively, hatred for how almost everything sucks) it's not the best presentation but others can work on that and contribute due to the wiki's nature.

As far as I can tell, and I may be wrong about this, they're really mad that he criticised their e-daddy Linus Tech Tips in a way that they can't argue against, meaning they have to retreat to "he's just a dramatuber now!" as a response.

They're another manifestation of the same problem he's highlighted multiple times: the people who just want to attach their ego to a brand or a movement, rather than actually helping. They're literally the people who yell RTFM at questions, yet they seem incapable of actually reading. Possibly also a level of gatekeeping involved. The only valid criticism on the entire thread is that Rossman talks very fast and that he uses pfsense.

@larossmann you need to stop using Reddit. They are assholes. They will measure you with the longest stick they have and beat you over the head with it when you inevitably fail to meet their expectations. You should break it with your knee and shove it up their ass (not use the app). You got one guy bitching about the format, another bitching about the length (no, not that one) and another bitching about "incorrect information" without elaborating. They are simply so set on their own beliefs that they'll go out of their way to find stuff to complain about if its from someone they already don't like.

By the way, I fully expect reparations for pulling that bait and switch with Clinton and the fishes. I like the fishes too, but you can't get away with cat-fishing your own audience like that!

It's too long, the information is terrible, it contains profanity, there's a reference to bipolar people (which is misogyny), Louis made fun of my favorite youtuber, it's preachy, it's mean, and the guide expects beginners to spend $100+ USD on a NUC. He's also a scammer who steals from his non-profit and takes a hefty salary, he only cares about right to repair because it personally benefits him, and the way his name is spelled is wrong, it should be "Rossman" the way everyone else spells it. There's virtually zero references to the actual content other than how it's vaguely sinister and emits psychic woman hating energy.

I'm pretty sure in one of his videos he described the highschooler behavior where if someone hates you, they hate everything you do and will find any random reason to hate you. How many times does he have to say "don't accept the premise of assholes" before taking his own advice?

But to keep it simple and to the point here, it was very apparent from a young age for
me that my mother had certain problems.
And one of the ways that my mother used to deal with it was through blaming the people
in her family.
So she was very, very depressed.
She was very, very anxious.
She had this OCD complex.
If you put a spoon down in a sink and she can hear the spoon dropping into the sink,
she will assume that you destroyed the sink and cry about it until five in the morning
and then say how you did it on purpose to ruin her life.
I digress.
That could be a five hour video in and of itself.
But I noticed that she was depressed and by the time I got to age six or seven, I thought
that I could use logic and reason to try to talk somebody out of a rational behavior and a rational thinking?
I think that's something that's kind of ingrained into all, you know, men's heads.
It's just part of the fucking chromosome of the DNA structure that we just think that if we just talk enough,
that we can just solve every problem, that it doesn't have to do with, with, with listening, it doesn't have to do with empathy,
it has nothing to do with just being there for somebody.
We just think that if we talk enough that we can solve the fucking problem. And by age six or seven,
This was in full force with me and one of the reasons that I was motivated to solve this problem is because I was sick and tired of being referred to as the reason for this grown woman's life problems.

"If I just btfo reddit with facts and logic they will stop hating me for things I didn't do" is just retarded. They don't hate the things they think you did, they hate you. There's a difference.

As far as I can tell, and I may be wrong about this, they're really mad that he criticised their e-daddy Linus Tech Tips in a way that they can't argue against, meaning they have to retreat to "he's just a dramatuber now!" as a response.
I didn't know how big LTT was among the retard community. Anyone who was even slightly critical of him online gets added to the shitlist and swallowed up by his massive fanbase.

Reactions: Markass the Worst
I could see a redditor and/or LTT ballwasher unironically harming one of Louis's kitties, but I could never see a Farmer doing it.
I see enough cat/kitty/anime catgirl avatars here to conclude that Clinton and Blackberry would be loved here by the vast majority.

People who hurt small animals deserve all the LTT Anthony videos.

Louis did a TL;DR video today about his open source life guide. Not anything new if you already read his guide, it's basically a notification for the video-only sub crowd that it's out there. Instead I'll embed the 13+ hours of FUTO video, since people may not have seen that if they aren't subscribed over there. Plus the otherwise excellently autistic Louis forgot to link the videos on the wiki itself.

There is a LOT in there, strongly recommend using the detailed timestamps in description to jump around.

What I gather from the comments is that Redditors are unable to read.

Reddit is a congregation of narcissistic Cluster Bs who think they know every fucking damn thing there is. You can never appease them and it's pointless to even try. They can only attack and bring other people down.

The criticism they offer is never constructive or well-defined. It's usually just jabs at someone's character or attempt at beating someone down (see example #926 on that thread):

(Because investing weeks of your time into writing up documentation is "the sound of your own voice".)

These people are narcissists. There is nothing you can do that will ever make them happy. Narcissists also flock to other narcissists and have disdain for anyone that shows any capacity for actual emotion. To them emotion is weakness. And more importantly, it's an attack opportunity.

They also have a severe inability to understand the time or effort it takes to go into projects like this. Even if you boofed adderall and sat in solitary confinement with nothing but a computer and Internet access this is still weeks long project. Louis is a full time business owner. Imagine balancing the responsibilities of running a project like FUTO or CAT full time while also having to deal with life and the operations of a full time computer repair business.

People, and especially narcissists have no time scale for how long things like this take to do. They see hyper edited content on YouTube made by teams of people and editors who are employed fulltime or as 1099's and think that is the norm. They don't understand or get it.

I fucking hate Reddit so much.

I don't think it's that they can't read, but rather they are intellectually dishonest. They can read and comprehend what he says perfectly fine, but they don't like him for some other reason - maybe because he said things about Linus or MKBHD that really get under their skin, and because they don't have any kind of proper rebuttal, they are going to ignore every point he makes, and argue in bad faith some other point that doesn't make any sense. Or maybe those people are big time Apple fanboys who can't simply enjoy their Apple stuff and ignore Louis' videos, so they just don't want to listen to literally anything he has to say about other things.

Once you learn and/or understand that someone, or a group, will never accept you for who you are, or that nothing you do will ever be good enough for them, you need to not accept the premise of assholes and stop giving them the time of day. Again, I'm sure he or someone else could view it as "pointing out their faulty logic and correcting it so others can see", but clearly it's affecting him. Spending as much time as he does pointing out Reddit shit, whether it be in written posts or videos, it seems to be done for himself, rather than for the benefit or education of his viewers.

I do agree that they probably don't understand the time and effort, and clearly passion that went into this project. When you don't like somebody personally, you disregard them by any means to justify your disdain for them, and I believe that's part of why he shared that post showing Reddit disregarding his project - he worked for a really long time on that, and to see them throw it out simply because they don't like him for other reasons, that probably ate at him, and that's understandable.

Imo, that should be the thing that tells you that you could spend literally months away from your main work working on a passion project for the benefit of others, and they would still treat you just the same, so stop giving them the time of day. Your fans loved it, and it's clearly got an entire community behind it with people contributing to it and making it better, and that should be enough. Who cares what some people on Reddit think? Your audience already knows their status quo.

As an American I didn't know this was a thing either.
