Apart from what others have said, its because they think if they aggressively push a character to being either trans or gay that the writers of said show or movie will make it canon at some point. Its all a big power play to own the "bigots"

They like to Anschluß and play 'keep away' with other people's media. Making Pepino from Pizza Tower a 'trans icon' (despite the complete lack of evidence) and making Luffy from One Piece scream 'Free Palestine!' (despite Luffy living in a completely different world) given these narcissists a sense of affirmation and 'pwnage'. Trying to bring reality to them would only ramp up the narcissism; they go beyond just going 'NU UH' and resor to trolling and worse.
