i remember a similar thing happening on the daily show, apparently one of the black writers got offended at a joke and jon went ballistic because apparently some republicans called him out for the same joke and he didn't want to admit he was wrong. plus a decade ago the demographics were white enough that everyone could still read and write fairly well, zoomers are mostly arabs or blacks or spics or mutts so they mostly watch video content instead of going to a website thats a glorified comment section.

in general archiving didn't really start until after most of the days of rage cooled down and boomers weren't as keen on keeping up with current events, the guy who wrote/directed that chicago 7 film awhile back was literally in chicago when the trial happened and didn't even know about it. beyond that because of how much of what people know about the past comes from pop culture or what they're taught and most schools refusing to teach "modern american history" at best people won't know about this stuff and at worst they'll read it from a People's history knock off book.
They only had one class in my college that focused on post ww2 US history and it was a 300 level and this was one of the top 20 colleges in the country by student count and they still barely could fill the class.
