I realized Mack never mentioned the idea of streaming the game. Even if he took notes directly from Vavra he couldn't defend this game live. I am watching Synth play it from the start and my god is it bad.

The over the top gay innuendos in the dialogue are quite funny at least. It would make Turbo Lover era Rob Halford jealous.

Going off the top player count to gage a game's sales success has always felt like a fallacy. I don't know what estimate would be shaved off, but considering people return games pretty frequently, I feel it could be sizeable.

I also have my unfounded schitzo theory (not just for this game) that current day large publisher/studio games most likely bot their games, regardless of a projected success or not. The extent? I couldn't say, but It's probably very easy to do at a large scale. Steam accounts are free, developers can generate as many keys as they want, and you can run games without the actual game launched. Why would they not do it? More than ever, people are influenced by the fear of missing out. I also imagine it looks good for shareholders if they see kotaku or ign talk about the game hitting a certain player count, but, I'll admit that I don't know enough about things that sway investors to firmly state that opinion.

Regardless, my point is that the sales will probably be way less than what the player count projects.

Something to consider is that the first game had legs. The first game came out in a terrible, broken mess. People (old and new) came back for patches and DLC. It never had a high concurrent player count, but it garnered interest over time.
