Neocities and the Yesterweb - The Second Coming of Tumblr. Led by a massive group of extremist hypocrites that go by neopronouns and full of webrings devoted to "transing the internet".

I've lurked the thread and lurked some of the neocities sites. I'm going to sperg out for a bit. This is probably something most people over the age of 30 or so probably know but whatever.

Just from a glance I can tell which sites are made by people who lived through the "early" internet and which didn't. Earlier pages didn't have such stuff in erratic order and glitter everywhere. Older girly sites could have glitter, but it at least was in some type of order. This hyperpopish thing is recent, and even 2010's Tumblr didn't really have it (except maybe for ironic blogs.) The only website I can remember off hand that had a lot of sensory overload was the icarly website (yes, there was an actual site for the show, which itself is now defunct). And even that was more of a satire of the time.

Personally I don't think everything needs to RETVRN. Some of the creative liberties taken are kinda cool.

But so much of the content is just so boring. It's full of nothing. Pre-tumblr there were no xenogender or ACAB stamps everywhere. Especially if you were mainly focused on Pokemon/video games/whatever. There was no need for microlabels, you could just explore and do whatever.

There's some sort of... sadness, I feel. There are teens who can't simply enjoy things. They are bombarded with political messages from every aspect of their lives. They are either for the Party, or against it. They are basically recruited into the Youth League of the Spies, and it's evident in any brief glance of the drama. I've had these thoughts for a while with mainstream social media, but it's just more obvious here.

I'm actually glad I grew up in an earlier time, because this seems like a huge hell to live through. I'm at least glad there are some sites from the 2000's that are still up.
Yeah, despite all the glitter explosions, Y2K buttons, and flashy gifs, these sites feel so empty and sad. I mean, it’s not a surprise that most zoomers have 0 personality of their own, and it shows on what they create.

Gonna add this point, because why not.

Tumblr in the 2010's had an option to customize your blog, as in actually being able to edit the html. There were a lot of preset themes (basically html templates) for your blog, and even premium themes, and these were basically made fun of. These premium themes were made fun of for basically buying chunks of code, but mostly because there were tons of free themes made by other users. Most users on tumblr didn't know how to code for shit, but they could pick up a pretty template and make it look nice, especially as tumblr had an editor for changing the colors/fonts/whatever. And people who could code sometimes could do really wacky things with the themes. You could actually make multiple pages, but most people just made an about page.

A huge thing is that tumblr blogs were you know... blogs. They had a purpose. They were always filled with some type of content. There were aesthetic posts and drawings, but there were also memes and essays about why some type of piece of media was woke or problematic or whatever. Most of them weren't only about pages with twenty pronouns and mental illnesses, that was just a part of it.

I logged into tumblr for the first time in 7? 8? years because I was curious that they had a radfem userbase that didn't get kicked off, and it was different. All the blogs were the same, there didn't seem to be any way to customize them except changing the colors. It felt depressing.
Is that the official retcon now? Tumblr used to be very free speechy at one point with hundreds of nazi blogs, there were literal aryan brotherhood nazi bikers tattooed head to toe in swastikas posting Hitler quotes from their trailer park methlabs with no jannies in sight to spoil the fun. In retrospect, early tumblr was the golden age of social media
This is also pretty much true. There were nazi blogs but you had to actively look for them, and most people didn't. In fact there were posts by users complaining that the nazi blogs weren't taken down for years. Tumblr was filled with SJWs but it was also filled with normies, and and anti-SJWs, and you could technically say trans women aren't women, but at that time no one cared enough (except for maybe the terfs that existed then, which itself was more niche) because Tumblr was the alphabet containment zone. And helicopter jokes existed everywhere elsewhere.

:story: To think that Tumblr once had way more freedom than the modern internet. And I only remembered it because it was the last time I used HTML was on a blog, and that was back when HTML4 was used. Everything really has turned to pre-made stale slop, hasn't it?

@Super Mario Brothers
The really sad thing is you can still totally edit the html and CSS of Tumblr blogs, and free custom themes are still out there, too. It's just older users, almost exclusively, who seem to use them.

The entire online universe has been turned into a bland, smart-phone friendly, corporate husk of itself, and the way so many people seem happy with that is chilling. It reminds me of the Atlanta underground, and the way it was only fun back when it was a lawless bunch of tunnels. After getting cleaned up and rebuilt to polite sensibilities, all that was left was nothing more than a giant, windowless mall.

I see the turbo-glitter vomit look as an obnoxious but understandable response to the dominating aesthetic that's captured most online spaces. If only they'd all find actual hobbies that could give their websites a soul, then, and only then, would I have any hope for change.

I took a quick look at the latest updates page, only to find a dissapointing lack of obvious cringe. I did stumble over a guy posting his big collection of micronational banknotes though, which was kind of delightful.

Rate me rainbows, but with the fall of the Yesterweb, Nekoweb providing an even safer-space for all the big time loonies, and Kyle fiddling with the settings so that stupid twitter-esque micro-blogging shit was nerfed, maybe the websites with content will finally start outnumbering the braindead manifestos and I'm-so-special retards who thing sparkly backgrounds and gender buttons is a suitable replacement for a human personality.

Yeah, despite all the glitter explosions, Y2K buttons, and flashy gifs, these sites feel so empty and sad. I mean, it’s not a surprise that most zoomers have 0 personality of their own, and it shows on what they create.
They exist purely to satisfy their creator's fantasy LARP of being a Real Online Girl during the 1990s (i.e. the greatest period in human history, when everyone floated about in a dreamlike state of euphoric bliss watching Serial Experiments Lain on VHS and playing Jet Set Radio for the Dreamcast). Any additional content is superfluous. These people are obsessed with the trappings of culture but have none of their own.

Would the current incarnation of Sheezy.art be fine to show here? I know its more furry-coded than the other sites but its kinda like a mix of pre-2010s Deviantart (at most pre-2019) and Neocities, including the queers and freaks that inhabit those sites already.
The most faggiest person I've seen can show us the typical page for a Sheezy.art user:
1737355528017.png

This overly bright thing shows the typical depiction of a sheezy.art page: horrible color grading, shitty descriptors, about a billion socials, and ugly-ass art. Also note the unique pronoun space that I'm pretty sure is mandatory. Funnily enough, this faggot is also has a Neocities website and its how I found this place, too, and its about as horrible as it is here.
1737355724138.png

I did try to archive one user's page (https://archive.ph/koPK8), some tranny named MoonMaid, but it doesn't look good.
1737355896645.png

So...enjoy this image I'd screenshotted because the site has anti-copying measures on their images.

holy shit, this retard is 41? I thought it was like 28 or something and just approaching a midlife crisis, not full-on in one already :story:
good work on finding that out, though I kind of have to disagree on sheezy.art because at that point you'd be able to make the same argument for tumblr and a lot of other mainstream sites with more customizability than "banner and profile picture with a color theme". Also, from what I understand, sheezy.art is even more significantly sleazy than DA and if you started posting profiles from there you'd probably run into enough furry porn to get the thread tagged with Gross.

I took a quick look at the latest updates page, only to find a dissapointing lack of obvious cringe. I did stumble over a guy posting his big collection of micronational banknotes though, which was kind of delightful.
Honestly, that's part of the reason it's been so quiet around here. I've been looking for some lulzworthy sites but a lot of the ones I found before are either dead or deleted now that Yesterweb has fucked off. sadgrl hasn't even executed that group's forums like she said she would, so I can't post an update on that either. It's been a lot quieter over on Neocities, thankfully, and I haven't got the time to dig super deep to change that.

This is probably the most notable update I can give on any of the old haunts.
1737381598639.png
Shows how enormous the problem is, I suppose. The vast majority of members here still seem to be minors (or very young adults), with maybe 55 of the 555 being like 40+ and almost certainly there to groom.

I do find it funny how there's almost an even split between MTFs, FTMs, and nonbinaries. In almost any other scenario it'd probably tilt overwhelmingly pooner or overwhelmingly troon with few-to-no NBs, but here everyone is so crazy that there's a relatively decent amount of every special snowflake label lol.

Just from a glance I can tell which sites are made by people who lived through the "early" internet and which didn't.
I'd like an example because apart from the Sneed site I don't think any of these sites fit the bill. Well TBF I don't really use nu-cities, so my knowledge on them is limited, but still.

Apart from the Sneed site on Worlio, the closest I could find were rubbereon.nekoweb.org which is a site made by a furfag fetishist I was trying to get more info on for a thread on PG and wirlaburla.worlio.com who as you all know shat up the farms last year.
The reason I selected those 2 sites is because they are "passable", they are atleast somewhat believable for web 1.0 sites compared against other yesterweb sites I've seen. Everything on the rubbereon site is squarely centred and the same can be said for wirlaburla's site except for the sidebar navigation which I really don't mind, but both sites have a fuckton of random gifs, icons and what-have-yous. Rubbereon for example has a litany of random pics and memes plastered on the main page. I bet they were randomly downloaded off Google Images. Wirlaburla's site is only slightly better, it has "buttons", "blinkies", a gradient minecrap title and other shitty gifs on the homepage with a giant fucking head that was dithered to shit to give it a retro-style.

And those are again, what I consider the most believable. I've yet to see another website on nekoweb/neocities/worlio besides Sneed that is exactly what I'd think an old website would look like.
I know its more furry-coded than the other sites but its kinda like a mix of pre-2010s Deviantart (at most pre-2019) and Neocities, including the queers and freaks that inhabit those sites already.
Redundant commentary.
Furries are to the art community what SJWs are to the blogging community.
They just infest any spaces they can post their degeneracy onto and they even invade fandoms with cartoon animal characters and then claim you are one of them if you like the characters.

Fuck these fags, they can yiff in hell for all I care.

Yeah, despite all the glitter explosions, Y2K buttons, and flashy gifs, these sites feel so empty and sad. I mean, it’s not a surprise that most zoomers have 0 personality of their own, and it shows on what they create.
I know this doesn't fit the theming of old web, but I legit found a few very artsy sites that looked crazy good. The authors simply used the freedom of custom HTML, CSS and JS and made something that I didn't think was even possible.
First, there's a site which uses images that pop on a TV when you hover text: https://twelvemen.neocities.org/
Then, there's also this which looks like the main menu of a dreamcast-era game: https://planet-bluto.net/
Both sites still have some of the cringe shit that you find on all these Y2K sites, but I'm still blown away by what they could do with HTML5.

I'd like an example because apart from the Sneed site I don't think any of these sites fit the bill. Well TBF I don't really use nu-cities, so my knowledge on them is limited, but still.
Dig Deeper, Spyware Watchdog, which have already been posted in the other neocities thread. Some of the sites almost look like it would be an old site, like Lets Find Pokemon! Found, but then they have a splash page with a bunch of random junk, and even the main pages have too many pointless gifs. It's... interesting? Weird? Like I'm looking at something familiar, and something not at the same time. The Gay Rights Pikachu stamp is the most immersion breaking part of it.

But for most of the sites you're right, they don't look like older sites.

I did stumble over a guy posting his big collection of micronational banknotes though, which was kind of delightful.
That's actually cool. I have a contribution to make, if you believe that Richard Stallman's gut is large enough to qualify as a micronation. Anyway, I've been trawling through the dregs of Neocities to find some different stuff from the usual queer furry "about me" pages.

https://transrats.neocities.org/aboutme a they them founder into Danny phantom
Gives me Randy Stair vibes.

Edited to add that if you embarrass yourself or the forum trying to troll, we will ridicule you; and if you need to tell people you're better than someone, you're probably not. Someone who lurks random_text.txt had the great idea to use one of Neocities's many unsecured guestbooks to give this constructive criticism to someone on my list, who is likely underage. As the saying goes, "if you feel compelled to personally insult a gay furry online, you are a worse internet user than a gay furry."

I ran into this by accident just a week ago, don't remember where from but I have never closed a Neocities tab faster in my life.

This page makes Sonicfox's constant "Did you know I'm gay?" look like a footnote.

Dig Deeper, Spyware Watchdog, which have already been posted in the other neocities thread.
I've heard from others on Jabber that DigDeeper's MUC was shut down recently and replaced by a fraudster version of it run by CP traders, be careful when browsing.

Spyware Watchdog is alright. I don't agree with the owner on a lot of things but it is a helpful resource and their community is one of the few public MUCs on Jabber that is not infested with wokies.

Thanks for the warning.

As a side note, I was looking through the sadgrl.online site and found their manifesto, and found this:
In order to discuss social relations online, it's impossible to ignore social media. Originally, I felt that social media was pure toxicity and there was no benefit at all from being a part of it. It exploits us by selling our data and bombarding us with ads, and is full of trolls.
This person is apparently in their thirties? Maybe a bit of the spirit of Chris Chan dwells within other people.

I like how she portrayed herself as a fat, ugly caricature with pimples, danger hair, and shitty tattoos. I thought unattractive people drew themselves more handsome or pretty than in reality.
Wondering about the same thing. Maybe it’s some sort of fetish for them to look fat and ugly you never know with these retards

That Lemmy's Land screen capture brings me back to some online adventures of the past. I wish I could find it, but a good example of weird online autism that was very of its time was some site called something like: "(USERNAME)'s violent site." At least I remember it really overusing the world violent and violence and had Wario on the homepage or something. Had links to all sorts of pages where you can see ancient gore edits of Pikachu.

The owner of omg.lol has decided to have a public meltdown over the Elon thing.

The person being slandered here is Vincent Ritter, the dev behind tinylitics and scribbles, a social web analytics platform and a blog hosting service.

I guess Vincent was also supposed to know that Elon planned on sperging out, and should own a time machine to tell his past self, as these are posts that clearly occurred before the event. I am fairly confident that Elon is not a neo-nazi heiling hitler in public, but not sure these types are open to any argument on the matter. The knives are out!

Unfortunately, yeah. Prolonged exposure to social media just makes you into a clone. We get signals and feedback all the time, but our minds can process the information in our own way when we step away from a situation. When you are always on social media, this process cannot take place (at least not as well) so you won't end up with your own thing, but instead you get synchronized to the crowd. No man is an island, but normally you would start seeing drifts in thinking and diversity of taste.

This is why we end up with clones. They have the same aesthetics, mental illnesses, taste etc. Social media typecast you, then chokes who you might have been, like strangler figs.

Old websites were born out of curiosity and necessity. You wanted to talk about something, share something? You created a webpage. Sure forums, IRC and Usenet were around, but they provided no proper profile page or way to store and share your files. A lot of Neocities pages really have no purpose other than existing for their own sake. Which is fine, but it says that they think web 1.0 was basically arbitrary junk, but it was somewhat comfy because it was made by people not corporations.

Let's ignore walled gardens like CompuServe, AOL and the 90s rush of making everything a WebPortal. The super platforms we have were always the goal, businesses just lacked the resources and technology to pull it of back then. And if you think about it it makes sense, you can have virtually unlimited traffic because you are not constrained by location or space. For some reason the collective Internet decided that "muh capitalism" on the Internet began when Facebook was made.

Sorry for double posting, the thread is pretty dead.

This subject is close to me because I do like the aesthetics, 80s 90s, Y2K and 00s nostalgia stuff etc. I really was a bit hyped for the "web revival" stuff too, but instantly it was raped by content creators on social media and megalomaniacs who made manifestos etc. A ton of interests I had was basically colonized by troons and retarded extremist in the last 10-15 years.

I tried to surf neocities, but most of it is just meh. Basically Bluesky user's tumblr art projects. Sometimes you can find Lainchanners/Agoraroad users who post about how social media bad, that too gets dull after a while.

The sad thing is if I was making a website that too would be a art project with a blog, so I am not really in a position to judge too much.

Your useless post that adds nothing to the discussion had atleast a silver lining. I never heard of lainchan and agoraroad before, so I decided to check them out for some potential funnies and they are both absolutely unhinged.

I'll start with agoraroad because it had the biggest surprise of the 2.

I managed to find an old face, you know, someone who was hella famous and quite popular on our little new zealand forum.
Our highly esteemed furfag, Wolfmanfur/@Latex Catmaid!
wolfmanfag.PNG
Dude's everywhere how the fuck do I keep finding this negro even when I'm not looking for him?!
It's literally on the second to last page on the introduction thread, I legit no cap wasn't even trying to find him and I still find him because I checked the most obvious place to find a lulzy newfag account.

furfag2.PNG
Oh you sweet summer child! If only you knew what he did here.
furfag3.PNG
I'm at the same time sneeding and glad to see other people on the forum hate furries because they were invaded by pornsick furfags who posted about their fetishes o algo. Agoraroad bros, sisters and xisters, we're in it together stay strong!:heart-full:

What's funny is he commented once ever and immediately fucked off as soon as he got hate comments on his profile, probs didn't want a repeat of kiwifarms. I also don't think he's banned, if he was banned I'm sure his username would have a strikethrough or all his posts and PFP would've been wiped (couldn't find anyone with a banned account to compare against, so it's probably that), he literally posted once and then left.

Aside from this highlight of the day, here's some other shit I found lulzy.

>"Does anyone here have schizophrenia? No? Just me?"
-The thread.

Care to comment, @Autistic Mushroom?

There's another profile that might have some potential lolcow material besides Wolfmanfur's. This bloke might be another furry based on the PFP, but I won't dig deeper to find out.

Doing a reddit AMA outside of reddit? This is a new low.

AITA for letting you know I am divorcing you by sending you a thread on the website that you use to ignore me?

Tiny update: Steffan has seen this post. He is mad that apparently one of you found him based on the rate my boobs thing. He has deleted his account. For any purposes, I want to clarify that I left out any actual incriminating information that could lead to doxxing him.
Any and all people who are pretending to know me or have any incriminating information about me are lying. I am not from South Carolina, I am not moving in with any other guy, and I am also not sleeping around.
-----x-----
Hi Steffan, maybe you will finally listen.

And if you're wondering if you can just speed home and stop me from doing this and leaving, it's too late. I'm sending you this after I've already loaded everything in the car and left. Don't worry, I spoke with our landlords and took my name off the lease. I've set up a direct deposit for the next month's rent. After that, you're on your own, "buddy."

I guess you're wondering why. I'm guessing you'll act like you're completely blindsided, right? Because you've done absolutely nothing wrong, and you're a great husband and father to be, aren't you?

Well, "buddy," let me break it down for you in a language you understand:
I (29F) have been married to my husband (35M) for five years, and we've been together for nearly ten. On paper, everything seemed fine, but in reality, our marriage has been anything but. I've reached my breaking point, and I need to know if I'm the one in the wrong here.

From the beginning, my MIL has been a nightmare. She made everything about her from day one. At our wedding, she wore white, claiming it was a "family tradition" (it wasn't). She constantly criticizes me, from my cooking to my appearance. I'll never forget the time she called me fat at a family gathering, right in front of everyone. And what did my husband do? Nothing. Not a single word to defend me.

It didn't stop there. She has "accidentally" destroyed my belongings, including my grandmother's necklace, which she threw out because it "looked like cheap costume jewelry." She's gone out of her way to make me feel small and unwelcome in my own home. But every time I tried to talk to my husband about it, he'd brush it off, saying I was overreacting or being too emotional.
And then there's my husband. He's always on >redditcostanzayeahrightsmirk, constantly giving strangers relationship advice, which is laughable considering how he treats me. He spends more time rating women's boobs on >redditcostanzayeahrightsmirk than talking to me. Literally. And just so you know, the last pair he rated weren't a 4 out of 10—they were a 10 out of 10. Yeah, he's got plenty of time to do that but can't be bothered to remember anything about my life. He'll forget my birthday, our anniversary, even simple things like what I'm working on or what's important to me, but he has a perfect memory for his work schedule and things that matter to him.

When we fight, he becomes incredibly hostile and always throws in a sarcastic "buddy" at the end of his sentences, like I'm some acquaintance he can barely tolerate. And he never cleans. The house, the dishes, laundry—you name it, it's all on me. It's like he thinks being an adult is optional, as long as he's got his job and his >redditcostanzayeahrightsmirk account.

The final straw came a few weeks ago. I'm 5 months pregnant with our first child, a daughter. My MIL started making comments about how she'll have to "whip the girl into shape" and how she'll raise her to be "tough" because I'm "too soft." When I told my husband that I didn't want his mother to have too much influence on our daughter, especially with the way she treats me, he just laughed it off, saying his mother "means well" and that I was "overthinking it."

But the moment that truly broke me was when we were talking about future childcare, and my husband suggested that his mother should watch our daughter while we work. I told him I wasn't comfortable with that, especially considering how his mother treats me, and he snapped. He called me "paranoid" and said I should "get over it" because his mother was going to be a big part of our daughter's life whether I liked it or not.
This is the same woman who believes corporal punishment is okay. I've seen her hit my husband's nephew for the smallest things, and no one does anything about it. It's like they're all living in some kind of cult, and I'm finally waking up to the reality of what's going on. If he wouldn't stand up for me, how could I expect him to stand up for our child? I started to fear for what kind of environment our daughter would grow up in—a place where she might be belittled or bullied by her own grandmother, with a father who wouldn't do anything to stop it.

Oh, and did I mention that he missed our first ultrasound? His mother "needed" him to help her with something urgent. It turned out to be fixing her Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi! He chose that over seeing our daughter for the first time. That told me everything I needed to know about where I stand in his life.

So, I packed up and left. I'm done living like this. Oh, and in case you're wondering, I've already contacted a lawyer. You can't scare me into complying anymore because I have all those texts. You know exactly which ones I'm talking about.

So, Steffan, I wish you all the best in your future marriage—with your mother and the women of >redditcostanzayeahrightsmirk whose boobs you don't even deserve.

Am I the asshole for leaving my husband after he neglected me for years, let his mother mistreat me, and made me fear for our future daughter's safety?
Please shut the fuck up your mouth.

This site is like an extremely retarded amalgamation of 4chan, kiwifarms, tumblr and reddit. There are some good posters on it, but do you really want to use a website with open schizos, trannies, furries and redditors? (None of which are mutually exclusive BTW LMAO)

Now as for lainchan, they have a board for drugs which is really suspicious and not a good omen for those visiting the site. Eh @Blamo2000?
drugs.PNGdrugs2.PNG
I'm not even 1 foot into the site and I already want to die. They better not be discussing krokodyl, meth or cocaine, we don't need more fucking homeless crackheads in this world.

Someone talking about lost media while bringing up being a psych yard patient, just some small powerleveling with the boys y'know.
psych.PNG
BTW I tried to find a /pol/ or /b/ board, but nope they don't exist, so that's out of the picture atleast. The random board technically exists, but instead sends you a bunch of random posts when you go into it and you get a random banner when you specify "b" at the end of the URL where a board should be.

Overall, Lainchan is perfect for you if you are mentally ill, queer and a druggie.
