Therefore, if by some God Given Miracle, the middle east can calm down and stop fighting because of this plan, we would relinquish control. I think Trump is being pragmatically pessimistic and realizes that may never happen, so we can just keep the land forever because the kids will never stop fighting.

You're forgetting about the most sensible option: cut aid to Israel and let it be. We created this mess by propping them up. I fear that us taking ownership of Gaza will just make things worse and that as long as Israel is propped up by us they'll destabilize the region by being hyperaggressive and refusing sensible compromises.
