Plagued /r/TNOmod and the Reddit HOI4 modding community - When a subreddit for a video game mod turns to utter insanity

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
I hope the fire rises head guy keeps all the weirdos out it is the only good hearts of iron 4 mod that actually came out on time they also get a lot of the ideologies correct so clearly the people writing it know this stuff
I don't want to jinx it but I believe it's because the mindset for the mod is totally different than TrooNO, more in line with 'peak' Kaiserredux. It aims to be a fun experience first and foremost. Not some 'deradicalization' tool or political propaganda.

Y'know, like how a video game should?

Not some 'deradicalization' tool or political propaganda.
I find the neoliberals urge to propagandize in nearly everything rather funny. Even the USSR made lots of media that was completely apolitical. I've even seen Soviet films which are veiled criticisms of the Soviet system.

Hell, the DPRK produces songs which are just generic love ballads. They also manage to understand not everyone is geared towards ideological slavery.

I've taken a break from trying to implement dynamic state names, and I've done some country modding.

As you can see here, I've implemented two new countries, Czechia and Austria into the game and I've done a good deal of coding regarding the country leaders.

In Yugoslavia, Copic has been replaced by Tito, Ceausescu is the communist leader of Romania, Gomulka in Poland has been replaced by Edward Gielek, and in Hungary Janos Kadar is the leader of the communists.

All of these aren't my own original work, I ripped them from that aforementioned Operation Thunderstorm mod and Tito was already in the game but unused. To apply certain cosmetic tags, I implemented an event called cosmetic_tags_work.1 that lets you choose from a list of 3. The rest are applied by switching ideologies.

I fixed the issue with Ceausescu's name, and the only bugs I know of currently would be missing localisation keys in the gamerules since I used the file from Operation Deepfreeze TNO, but 2WRW is gonna implement the new TNO content anyways so I figured I'd leave it in there.
If I decide to axe the dynamic renaming, I could release the mod right now. All that's left might be deleting unused files, removing Brezhnev as a general from Tannu Tuva, and maybe adding in Belgium & Luxembourg as new tags. Aside from that, I'm pretty satisfied with the mod.

Will this be released at some point? I am impressed with your modding skills and the portrait making.

I'm guessing neu-TNO removed Tito's/the Ustase's rebellion. Their loss, I think you can have some fun with those paths. Serbia and Croatia just need content, otherwise their scripted paths are pretty interesting.
They plan on removing Tito from Croatia, don't know about the Ustashe. Tito was originally a path alongside Nedic and Rankovic in older TNO versions but they replaced him with Copic for some reason, you can see it in the code with all the keys being used to reference Tito, so I basically just restored old content.

What are the odds do you think any hoi4 mods were being funded by USAID?
The only real possible candidates are Kaiserreich and TNO. They are the two largest mods for HOI4, with large fanbases that reach outside the HOI4sphere. As such, they're the only real vectors for social engineering (read: nu-communist propaganda) USAID would've considered.

Kaiserreich, probably not, it's too old and came out before HoI4 modding became particularly notorious or started to have its disproportionate impact on internet culture.

TNO or another commie wank mod I can believe. Probably not any direct funding but I wouldn't be surprised if someone who was downstream of USAIIIIIDSSSS money sent some of the devs some support or was a dev themselves.

I don't think the US would fund TNO either. The "Nazis won" mod would probably be the opposite of what usaid promotes. If anything, it'd be used as a honeypot for internet radicals and child predators.

i'm looking for someone to playtest the deepfreeze version of the tyumen mod, a full game until unification is preferable but up to the superregional would suffice too. preferably two people; one plays the brezhnev path, the other khrushchev's.

Maybe Thousand Week Reich or Millennium Dawn? Millennium Dawn feels like what a government employee would call "fun".

So I get this is probably an ignorant question in this thread, but is TNO actually worth playing? I know nothing about the drama side of it but the setting seems fun.

I've just heard that they've taken a bunch of content out? And that it's basically a visual novel instead of a strategy game.
