The most selfless thing Kelly could do is walk away from those kids. Sure, they would need therapy over abandonment issues, but they will be even more fucked up in the long run if she sticks around.

Hungry Fat Chick often gets criticized for abandoning her two children, but she knew she was too fucked up to raise them (too bad these women don't think of that BEFORE reproducing). Anyway, they're grown now. She says she speaks to them occasionally although she doesn't have a real relationship with them, but from what little she has said, it seems like they turned out all right (at least better than her). I don't know who raised them, but I think it was another family member (her mother, maybe).

SWIM operates a nonprofit cat rescue and it's no-kill but having to say "no, we can't take your neighborhood stray even though she's skinny and it's -6F outside because we have 18 other cats right now, but we can bring you a warming box and food if that helps" and "we can take the one pregnant female and the two little boy kittens but not the six other intact adults from this abandoned house" feels like it negates the no-kill part all the fucking time. According to that person. Anyway, donate to your local rescues/shelters if that's a thing you're in a position to do. Shit sucks bros.

It's easier to do nice things for animals than it is for people, most of the time. Obviously there are cases of animals that have high accommodation needs but most animals are way easier to accommodate and more pleasant to be around than a whole ass person.

A cat with a minor injury or mild illness: can be annoying because you can't explain to them why they need to take this gross medicine, why they aren't allowed to jump on stuff or go outside right now, why their eye itches but they aren't allowed to scratch it, etc. ... but they mostly forget about it and just want to snuggle.

Kelly encountering even the smallest inconvenience, or when that fails, making one up in her head by blowing innocuous things out of proportion: everything detailed in this thread and plenty more we don't even know about.

Cat: is worth the time and effort necessary to improve quality of life.

Will chase ideological purity straight into doing literally nothing for no one and want rewards for it. Then they'll have the audacity to try and police how other people use their volunteer hours. Kelly also doesn't understand that love flows downhill. A mother loves her child more than anything in existence. Her child loves her child more than anything. And so on. When it comes to relationships, love is a choice. It's a choice you have to make every day, to love and continue loving your partner, and to be loved in return.
