Thoughts on why Gen Z is not drinking alcohol?

I'm calling BS on that. You'd have to either be drinking expensive shit or have Rekieta levels of alcoholism to go through 50 bucks of alcohol in a week. You'd have to drink 1-2 handles a week which is pure alcoholism to do that, and the stats are pretty clear that only a few percent of people are like that.
I was high balling for sure and I was assuming you weren't getting drunk alone or maybe going out to drink. I should have specified more. I still think for many that weed wins in terms of perceived value.

Maybe I don't get out enough but the most I've heard of this is someone asking what beer you prefer, and you have an answer (as if most pilsners don't taste identical.)
Me and a couple of my cousins homebrew beer.
It's a fun hobby, but I will be the first to admit that it is autistic as fuck and kids find it tedious to be around.
Most people don't go as far as we do, but yeah, the entire craft beer scene is filled with uncool Dads and Uncles who make a hobby out of being borderline alcoholics.

Okay, then who is buying all those faggy seltzers like White Claw? I'm pretty sure only zoomers drink that gay shit.

I know for a fact how hard it is to reach those levels of alcoholism because when I was younger I used to every 2 weeks go through a handle of vodka and big 1800 mL bottle of sake, and goddamn did I feel horrible every morning after. It's absolutely insane to even drink like that one night a week, and to be spending 50 dollars a week on liquor you'd need to do that 6-7 nights.
For a normal person, sure. But I knew big wigs at Exxon who would go to the bar and when 2AM rolled around he would go up to the bartender and offer them a ton of money to come back to his flat and bartend for the rest of the night. Sometimes he would just straight up buy all the liquor in the bar and have the bartender bring it with them. Then he'd invite the entire fucking bar over to his flat for 2 day benders filled with drugs and sex rooms. Do not underestimate how much people will spend to party.

I'm not sure why this is being treated like a big mystery. There's two big reasons for this. The first is because alcohol is a social lubricant, and they just aren't going out and socialising. They're staying in and getting their socialising through the Internet for the most part. Getting bladdered on your own can be fun, but it's not really something people would do regularly unless they have a problem. And there's also a much bigger variety of options for at-home entertainment in general - why go out and get drunk instead of playing video games or streaming whatever you want on TV, for example?

The second reason (and this applies moreso to pubs and nightclubs specifically) is that even if you do have an active social circle offline, it's too bloody expensive. For the price of a night out at the pub now you could have gone out every day of the week twenty years ago. So when they are drinking, it's at house parties that aren't really visible. Probably creating an illusion that Gen Z drinks less than it actually does.

I think one of the reasons is the Internet or social media. Let me explain.
Since the Internet is foreverTM, even the social Zoomers are reluctant to drink as to not get drunk and make complete asses of themselves. That is in fear of being recorded by friends or strangers via phone. And depending on what the drunken person has done while under the influence, that might be enough for potential life ruination or canceling. Gen Z gets the soft faggot label (deserved somewhat) but this is one thing they get right. And it's moderation or abstinence.

This is a bit of an oversimplification, but the truth is that zoomers just don't go out as much. I'm not talking about going to some nightclub in a big city where there are drugs and loud music until 4 AM. I'm talking about having a few beers at a bar with the boys on a Saturday night. Yeah, this is normie behavior, but (in moderation) it's also perfectly healthy behavior that can be very good for you. Many zoomers didn't go out and get drunk with friends when they were teenagers (or go out friends or have friend), so alcohol wasn't really a part of their lives. Unless you're able to fix the aspects of your life that keep you inside and on a computer every weekend, you're not going to drink. Some zoomers can do this without having a 'normal' teenage/college experience, but many can't.

First thing, drinking is a social action. Can't do that when all your friends are online.
Second, there was a MASSIVE demonization campaign against alcohol in the last 20 years in media.
Third, there was a MASSIVE whitewashing campaign for drugs the last 20 years as it is a good method of social control.

End result, Gen Z smoke weed alone in their parents basement after a day of wageslaving.

My view, cans of 10mg THC soda cost more per oz but they're less taxing on the liver, more memorable and don't taste like I am either drinking rotten bread, rotten berries or gasoline (looking at you, everclear), tell me it's a social lubricant all you want but if you gotta drink combustible rot to open up to some other middle-road IQ individual there's something busted in your personality.

Name one great teetotaler
Isaac newton.
I think it’s a mix of things - booze is (at the start) a social thing and nobody is social any more. It’s also not sweet easy tasting. Nobody wants to be filmed drunk, and there’s a lot of alternatives. Also the rise in the Muslim population.

Even when I was young, I didn't drink often and used various substances like two or three times ever. I didn't realize I was contributing to some kind of society-wide sobriety problem that needs to be solved.

For me it was seeing my dad plastered, I wouldn’t be caught dead in that state.

Although overall i think it’s because there are so many vices to engage with these days alcohol lost a lot of it’s luster. All the cool kids do drugs.

Isaac newton
Clint Eastwood
Neither of them are/were teetotalers. Newton's job from 1692-1699 was literally to hang around bars all day.
