I didn’t say we should prop up these empires or try to stop decolonization, did you miss the part where I said I’m an isolationist? I just said that we shouldn’t have betrayed them by advocating for independence. And areas under our orbit? Why risk communists or evil warlords taking over these areas when their old European owners were already our allies?
My point is that these military actions kill the large numbers of people on both sides and destabilize the host country. This causes massive diplomatic backlash as well. You can't have a trade empire when no one trusts you. Eventually they'd rather take the devil they don't know.
