There's plenty to hate FDR about, but it takes Congress to pass the laws and a judiciary to not declare them unconstitutional. Every president after him holds culpability for using and expanding what he help create. Congress has the power to declare war. Congress allocates (or doesn't allocate) funds for departments created by the executive branch.

This seems to be ever-present in the West. In the UK a couple years back, we implemented a plan to ship illegals over to Rwanda (It was stupid but I digress) but the civil service just decided... not to do that. Unelected middle managers essentially steering the ship because they're appointed and apparently very difficult to fire.

The background is the leader of the opposition at the time (Keir starmer) was the barrister who defended the right to not be extradited by some of the people who committed the genocide in Rwanda. Last summer the son of one of them killed several small girls in the UK.
Allowing migrants to be processed in Rwanda would have meant nothing stopping his client being extradited for trials on genocide charges

His best play to actually fix things is to appeal until it goes to the Supreme Court, then once they knock down the lower court rulings nobody can fuck with him again in that way.

Trump needs to make the law work by reinforcing it through the Supreme Court when he is challenged, not break the law.
