Looks like my copium dreams are still alive, and it's lining up sort of to what I was hoping would happen: Patty is grossly mischaracterizing things and this'll hopefully go to trial.
E: I'd say odds are pretty good it's going to be a sealed case due to the 'online bullies.' I'm curious if the local media would be interested in covering this case and if Patty would open his yap, digging a further hole.
@Make Anime Illegal , the big thing with defamation cases is proving damages. If something happens where Leslie is barred from a convention or there is some other sort of professional impact due to laughing at Patty, there'd probably be grounds.
An online lunatic saying dumb shit that no one takes seriously (because who, honestly, outside of the Man of Pig himself, believes that there is an actual cyberstalking cult targeting him?) would be hard to prove damages. Also, there's the fact that Pat doesn't have a pot to piss in, so going after him for damages would be pointless and essentially flushing money down the drain.

I'm starting to think Pat has an inverse form of Narrativium. Call it Adipose Narrativium. Every apparent W he has ever been handed has turned out to be a bum deal for him. He gets married? His wife tells him she never loved him and leaves him for a man with a pringle-can dick. He secures the services of one of the best publishers in the sci-fi game? He squanders it by bombing with every book he releases until he's stuck writing Tiny Tim Has His Kidneys Stolen On Pluto. He attracts the attention of retarded weens and somehow avoids being shot over the course of FOURTY PLUS SWATting attempts, but acts like such an obstinate piece of shit that the cops think they can beat him in court. To top it all off, the guy who is responsible for many of those calls - assuming Pat DIDN'T hire him - gets off with a slap on the wrist.

To be fair this is a pretty solid bet. The Torswats thing also just wrapped up and he got a relatively lenient sentence. I'm not sure how it'd play out if they actually got the killshot evidence that Patrick was paying for his own swats, but it does seem more reasonable for them to deal with they'd deal with this case first then charge him.
No matter what happens I'm fully convinced that this all ends with Patrick getting himself imprisoned playing some kind of dumbass game. Given his history of faking evidence that he has then gone on to submit to the police it's only a matter of time before he gets caught.
