It's hilarious to watch modern "police bodycam" videos where they're arresting a nigger. When my cats were just kittens oh so long ago they saw some horses in a pasture a few hundred feet away. They were calm at first but when they did the internal calculations on how big the horse must be with how far away they were they became instantly terrified, fluffing up their tails and getting into a defensive stance. They were familiar with dogs at that point so I think they went from "that's a funny looking dog" to "HOLY FUCKING CHRIST HOW BIG IS THAT DOG?"

Id argue they were never that effective long term. At best they had a purpose in the cold war, but never adapted with the times and continued to shit in everyone's bed in short sighted attempts at control and manipulation.
Vance is the perfect guy to do this. Trump could make the same points but he's too blunt and (rightly) impolite. Vance is the only guy who has a chance of changing one person's mind in there by the simplicity of his points and elegance of his manner and speech.
You know I was almost disappointed with trump for shiting on Biden as much as he did on inauguration. He did make his success guaranteed....
