So, if DSP knew all this time he was being used and using them in turn why is he only now saying so? Why did he pretend they were pals up until now?

We'll never know the truth of it all because phil's a lying liar who lies. It's really the only question I have left when it comes to the Triple Chin arc. Has phil really experienced a moment of clarity in the past year as he's forced himself out of exile that's allowed him to accept his status as a lahlcow.
