To be fair, Burger attended the St. Paul College of Law, created in the first decade of the 20th century specifically for night school opportunities, and a predecessor school (with four others) to William Mitchell, one of the two schools that merged to create Mitchell Hamline in 2015. Nick matriculated at William Mitchell, and it merged with Hamline the same year he was graduated (don't know if before or after his graduation).

Until 1938, when it was accredited by the ABA, the law school relied entirely upon local attorneys and judges for its faculty and administration. One of them was Harry Blackmun, a professor at the St. Paul College of Law from 1935 to 1941. Years later, after the merger, Justice Blackmun also served as a Trustee of William Mitchell.
