General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

Well that came out of left field....

- and nobody's going to spend hours watching something they're not interested in just to give it a fair shake in an Internet argument.

I have tried, though finding material on the subject of VTubers that isn't overtly/proudly biased one way or the other has been difficult. That said, the general strong reactions to VTubing is itself a point of interest.

While there are some who can be more even-keeled about it, most don't seem interested in actively discussing the phenomena beyond personal preference. This isn't surprising, but it makes things difficult for someone who is interested in VTubing/VTubers more as a subject.

Somehow I don’t think Hololive is actually fond of their talents using their positions to boost their family members indie streaming careers. Could see it causing some drama in the future for sure.
Given how management seemed to freak tf out when they realized that Nerissa was having her siblings on stream on the reg, this does seem like flying a bit close to the sun. It's a riot how hands-off/oblivious they seem to be of the EN stream goings on.

I'd love to see the actual $ breakdown that seems to lead the nips to believe that the idol shit is more profitable to focus on than streaming activities and sponsorships. Holo chuubas are not touring musicians and I refuse to believe that throwing one-off concerts has a better ROI than a well promoted, high engagement streams.

not really in any different here
Even some parts of X that poki chick was crying that women weren't in the top 10 of streamers but when people starting pointing out the vtubers were really poplar e-girls started having meltdowns
flesh-streaming women will always hate vtubers because most are selling their looks. especially pokimane, who sells the "cute next-door girlie" image despite being a nasty Karen-like bitch.
(no, all the cries of "stop being parasocial about me we're not friends!!!!!" isn't genuine, it has never been genuine, parasociality is what makes them money, they cannot live without parasocial relations. you believe what STREAMERS say? oh brother.)
it's why they hated anime before it became so mainstream they had to play along. "you watch cute women on your television instead of giving me, a REAL cute woman, your resources???? you're gay/virgin/incel!"

If Cover doesn't care about Calli doing concerts as Karen, they're not going to care about Nerissa's roommate tweeting about her 2view sister.

According to Cover's recent report (link), the revenue breakdown is: streaming ~23%, events/concerts ~13%, merch ~49%, and sponsorships ~14%.

Cover identifies both streaming and concerts as requiring "direct operation of performers", compared to merch and licensing which do not, and they also mention that concerts are an opportunity to do event-specific merch/licensing. I think this means Cover is aware that both streaming and concerts are competing for the talents' time, but they choose to continue doing concerts because concerts are more suited to promoting merch/licensing which are the big money makers and which Cover views as having more potential for growth because they aren't capped by the talents' workload.

I doubt they would care much if she does all the promoting in her non-holo socials, its not like she is doing a "wink wink nudge nudge im Nerissa and this is my vtuber sister" on her personal

That reminds me of when those camwhores were trying to get ProjektMelody banned cause she was making way more money and getting way more views than all the others.

Normal streamers really do treat vtubing how Hollywood treats animation. That dumb cunt said that there are no female streamers on the level of Kai Cenate despite vtubers leaving him in the dust statistically multiple times. They even made a category of best vtuber at streamer/influencer awards just like the Oscars did for animated movies.

I can appreciate how difficult looking into vtubing as a curiosity must be, since some parts of it are aggressively gatekept. There's good reason for that, since there are a lot of genuinely unpleasant and potentially dangerous individuals who orbit the sphere who I'd rather keep as far away as possible, but I realise it makes vtubing seem even more alien than it would otherwise.

Even on a personal level I tend to be willing to answer questions where I can, but there's times where I feel hesitant for two reasons - one being that a lot of people who dislike vtubing really dislike vtubing and don't care to listen to anything a vtuber fan has to say, and attempts I've made in the past to meet in the middle have felt like talking to a brick wall; and the other being that, like I mentioned, I've encountered more than a handful of people who could be a real danger to the vtubers themselves and/or more impressionable fans. There are regular co-ordinated attempts on places like /vt/ and the Sharty to destroy specific vtubers' reputations and careers with unsubstantiated rumours (usually for petty reasons like "she has a boyfriend" or "she's friends with someone I don't like" or even "she doesn't cope and seethe about the Kiwi Farms like I do"), and it's not unusual for deranged creeps to make inappropriate sexual advances toward female vtubers, even if they never engage in sexually charged/fanservice content at all. If someone's asking for information about a specific vtuber, I have to be absolutely sure their motive is purely curious interest, and that I'm not accidentally spoonfeeding a stalker his next victim.
