I don't trust NASA for something like that in the slightest. NASA is infamously lazy and frankly, stupid. The only thing NASA cares about is gatekeeping the space industry so no one else can make any progress in the field or gain any new understanding of the technologies while they continue to sit on their ass and do nothing but launder money and let the previous marvels of technology NASA's predecessors worked so hard on sending to space (like the Hubble Space Telescope) rot and get destroyed. Say what you want about Elon Musk, but I trust SpaceX much more with this kind of stuff since they've proven that they actually want to move forward instead of staying stagnant and have proven that they are very capable. SpaceX at least has shown some kind of care and respect for the technology that NASA has sent to space in the past and has been a proponent of recovering and recycling the parts and technology so we can learn from them, update them back to better working order, and save money while doing it. SpaceX has been vocal about wanting to save and refurbish Hubble Space Telescope before it's completely unsalvageable and NASA constantly tries to block it, preferring to let the telescope rot because "it's too dangerous" to recover something near orbit. This is what NASA does all day, blocking space exploration and advancements in space technology. the ones who supposedly sent men to the moon in the 60s and 70s.
