Does anyone have any leads on this? (modern day long form writing from Elon)
If he doesn't do writing in the current day and really seriously only does TV interviews and press conferences it raises some interesting questions.
Just for the sake of completeness I did a bit of searching (certainly not super extensive) and couldn't really find any long form writing from Elon at any stage of his career. Supposedly he wrote some business plans and shit when he was much younger but I doubt it would be possible to find that kind of stuff.
I honestly find the lack of long form writing to be quite curious. It's certainly not a surefire indictment of his abilities but strange given how involved in tech he is.
It does make me believe that his "success" is really more driven by some ideas he might have, his management style/ability to visualize how things "should" work but probably more so by the caliber of engineers that he attracts or has access to.
The best I could really find are emails from the "Internal Tech Emails" twitter account which posts "internal tech industry emails that surface in public records":
https://x.com/search?q=from:TechEmails elon&src=typed_query
This kind of text message seems indicative of his focus on engineering talent (whether that ends up in results is up for debate):
But overall none of these emails are really capable of showing to me how he thinks about complex ideas. I wasn't expecting to exactly find a research paper but most of his responses are curt. Since many of them relate to investments it's feasible that he is very guarded and strategic about what he writes. Beyond that there is a lot of middle management tier bullshit about music at work kind of stuff and anti-remote work shit but really I couldn't find anything of substance of him writing in long form about complex ideas or complex analysis of situations.
It's possible that he's just an extremely effective & deliberate communicator (short, direct and to the point is a good quality to have) and finds no value in long form writing/discussion and discusses everything verbally but I was hoping to find him write at length about something and couldn't really find it anywhere - which is very strange for someone who wants to go to Mars, create electric cars and is a fan of technology and Neuralink and all that shit.
The way he communicates over his twitter account is almost always extremely short form too and it makes it strange to see people fanboy over him writing banal, repetitive shit. The absences of long form writing and what looks like a preference for verbal communication (that's an assumption on my part) probably also explain why he's got a hard on for "proving" that remote work is gay.
