To be fair, it was pretty split. Half of Reddit were pointing out his playschool-level understanding of transit, and the other half were hailing him as the One Good Billionaire who would save humanity.

There are still some die-hards, but it's getting harder to ignore his lack of work ethic and a string of empty promises. He didn’t even deliver on popularizing EVs like he promised. Even Musk seems bored with Tesla—hence his backing of an administration pushing anti-EV policies. The whole thing served its purpose as a vehicle for self-promotion, and now it’s onto the next grift.

Rate me late if it's already been said, but I don't think there actually is, or will be, a falling-out between Musk and Trump. Trump is keeping Musk around on purpose and putting him front-and-center to distract the media from talking about his own doings. Kind of like a medieval court jester distracting people from the King, basically. Hence Musk doing hitler salutes and waving chainsaws getting all the media attention, while Trump (comparatively quietly) signs dozens of executive orders a day and guts the government to replace with his loyalists.

Off topic but I think the Aztek has actually aged pretty well. Yes it's ugly but if it came out today, it would fit in with modern cars just fine.

Most people, myself included until I started taking a deep dive into him the last year or so, used to only see what he was doing in passing.

It imprints an initial positive image into most people's brains. People have a bias towards their first view of a topic, so it's harder to shift that view than imprint it in the first instance.

However, now that people cant ignore some of his less savoury behaviours all those who have meticulously catalogued and dug into who he really is are probably going to get increased traction. Elon's main advantage might be undermined by his incessant need for attention.
