IIRC they just broke it up into more specialized agencies after the war with the CIA being one of the OSS's many offshoots. The feds prefer smaller agencies as a way to prevent them from getting too much power and easier to maintain control, otherwise they would do shit like what the CIA does. It's also partially the reason why the airforce was broken off of the army, those two together would be too powerful if there was ever a coup.
