Except in the 80s it was the Republicans with Reagan that put an end to the cold war and greatly warmed the relations with the USSR.

And then in the 90s the Democrats put an end to it during Clinton.

You just had your President attempt a shake-down and got caught in front of the whole world getting told to fuck off. Part of being a President is pulling this shit off so you look good either way. He just got told to eat shit in front of everyone and globally, if you look at the news cycles abroad, they are playing it for what it is - Zelensky told Trump to fuck himself and Trump had him kicked out of the Whitehouse.

Nothing about this has shit to do with the validity of funding the war or not. The reason why the EU and USA did nothing when they took the Crimera under Obama was to send a message - you either make changes that allow you to be in the EU and/or NATO or you get smashed. Dont like it our way? Then suffer bitch.

The reason why we opted to start funding the GREATER WAR was an intelligence exercise to see modern weaponry against Russia which had never been seen before and to monitor their supply chains, factories and garnish intelligence on their true capabilities which was worth billions for EU and the USA to know and see - you won't garnish that kind of knowledge watching them attack people in caves.

The validity of continuing to fund the greater was and is questionable, but that is separate from the man-child tantrums of a man who got caught trying a shake down.

And none of that means that there won't be a deal made (but probably not); but it won't be as one-sided as Trump offered if one is taken.
