Russian Special Military Operation in the Ukraine - Mark IV: The Partitioning of Discussion

Go ahead, fulfill your dream and nuke Europe since it's all useless. Just don't be surprised when five or ten years down the line, even with your Intel fabs, you'll have to regress decades in semiconductor development because the sole company that allowed for UEV litography is gone, and their machines are impossible to reverse engineer, so once they break, they all break for good. Do keep thinking that TSMC is your only worry in terms of semiconductor independency though, ignorance truly is bliss.

And if you're thinking about military takeover, yeah tough luck with that, I'm sure you'll leave all the critical infrastructure and documentation unscathed with such a power move, especially the high precision fabs.
Who the fuck cares? A 64nm process cpu is still powerful enough for 90% of necessary computer usage, and we'd fall back to maybe 12nm at the worst case scenario

Europe holds the entire semiconductor industry by the balls.
ASML makes very important piece of kit, but it is not secret magic and it can be replicated if needed by other states.
The reason why the US, Japan, Taiwan do not have their own companies making the same type of machines is because it does not make financial sense.
The market is just too small. A handful machines every year or less. Any investment in a competitor will split the market and will never be profitable.

China I do expect do eventually build a clone at some stage. They have the scientists, they have the engineers and they have the money. And also for them it would be more of a "secure supply for security reasons" and not a pure for profit endevour.

Yeah, North Koreans are basically canon fodder right now because they don't seem to understand the new modern warfare. They are constantly grouping in large numbers which basically means death sentence. Even individually their movements and coordinations are ridgit and inflexible.
This is exactly why they are there then. To learn, since everyone is comparing this to the 1930s I'll indulge myself a little, The north Koreans in Donbass and Kursk are like the Condor Legion from the Spanish civil war, its a testing ground for warfare, help an ally and gain experience in warfare that training exercises could never provide.

It's looking like Zelensky doesn't control the military. They tell him what to do not the other way around.
It's still insane that he won't even fumble on purpose and take any of those fucking exits he's been shown.
They're probably way more rabid behind closed doors than we realize, maybe he really is scared shitless of azovites.
Edit: I'm talking about him personally. In the sense of saving his own skin.

Its honestly baffling, if thats the case decisions that the Ukrainian high command have made are catastrophic you've had a PR offensive and the fall of Bakhmut and Avdiivka. Not to even the mention the meatgrinder kursk has become. The sheer insanity of these actions always led me to believe it was clownsky giving the army increasing disastrous objectives for the sake of reddit karma and praise from western shit-lib journalists.

If this post is accurate Kiev will drop the fortress city and fortified trench style of defense they've been conducting to a defense that doesn't maintain a fixed position and instead try to inflict maximum casualties on the RuAF before withdrawing to the next position. In reality it's going to be more like a rout across the steppe with Ka-52s, Sukhois and artillery chasing them from town to town in a constant wave of death. They are preparing for the complete loss of the Donbass and a retreat across open land to the Dnieper.

This is a genocide of Ukrainian men (and women) for nothing by the criminal mafia in Kiev. They should be hunted down and put on trial for war crimes.

Kiev's success in slowing down the Russians is entirely based on their ability to dig in incredibly hard, forcing the Russians to use heavy equipment to blast them out, and using drones to destroy said equipment when it gets concentrated. Abandoning what is effectively modern island hopping for a "elastic defense" when you lack air superiority and heavy equipment to conduct big counter offensives and win meeting engagements is so stupid that I not only doubt the claim, but believe that if Ukraine tries this, they'll revert back to digging in wherever possible. Rzhev and Kursk showed that with time, even flat, open terrain can be turned into a defensive nightmare, and Ukraine's had more than enough time to prepare.

Losing semiconductor expertise in Europe is more of a nuisance in the long term than an actual existential crisis. The same with Taiwan.

At the end of the day geography and economics play a far more integral role in geopolitics than semiconductors.

NATO was created primarily to cushion France and West Germany from the Soviets, and the US pacified Japan and the Philippines as they are the primary gateways in the Asia-Pacific.

The Netherlands and Taiwan making semiconductors are more of an afterthought, they're important but not the actual goals.

NATO expansion into Ukraine was completely unnecessary and brought unwarranted risks to America, and losing Taiwan to China is moreso problematic because it brings China closer to the Pacific.

Isn't his entire trusted circle friends from his acting days? He probably genuinely believes that flashy and showy actions win wars as that's how they worked in show business. His entire career involved hand waving away plotholes, and logistics and reality are full of plotholes.

I never really believed he was giving the orders, but only signing the most insane ones with the utmost, authentic fervor, but I didn't realize how little personal agency he seems to actually have until now. I always assumed that he could've said "No, we're not doing that." but even that doesn't seem to be the case.

It's a fight against reality and it's a fight against us all.
What is new is old.
"For it is a characteristic of socialism to discover in social institutions the origins of unalterable facts of nature, and to endeavor, by reforming these institutions, to reform nature" - von Mises
When was the last time any of the European elites lived in reality?
They truly think that if they sign a paper saying: "10 billion to arms for Ukraine", the money will rearrange itself and become weapons immediately, just because they signed it.

That's more of an inherent, capitalist fallacy than a socialist one. People like Trump will call themselves "builders" when they never laid one brick in their entire lives, because they think money "does" and they have all the money. Not saying socialists don't exhibit lots of dissociation, but this one is coming from the other camp. Still affects both, because neither side manged to ever do away with money.

There’s been photos and a handful of videos of North Korean equipment in Ukraine/Kursk. Usually the more modern stuff they’ve been keen to show on parade these past few years.

My guess is there are small numbers deployed primarily to test new hardware on the battlefield.
Oh yeah, there’s plenty of Nork hardware. There are pictures going back a while of these massive trains of Nork artillery pieces going west.

The North Korean hardware isn’t as technically advanced as Russian or American, but it’s solid. (And lack of sophistication can be an advantage in a time of EW.)

They’re also useful for closing gaps in Russian capabilities. The Koalitsiya howitzer for example isnt available in the kind of numbers the Russian needs for counter battery artillery, but the Norks make a very capable self propelled 200mm artillery piece.

Guided and unguided rocket artillery is also an area that the North Koreans are very good at. They even have a 300mm guided artillery rocket that has no equivalent neither in Russian nor western arsenals.

Nobody likewise doubts that North Korea has been a good supplier of artillery shells. But the stories about Nork Troops are very dubious. I strongly doubt they exist beyond observers and perhaps some engineering troops in small numbers.

Bullshit.

ASML may be headquartered in the Netherlands but it isn’t a European company in any meaningful sense of the word. Their employees are Chinese, Americans, Japanese, Indians, and sure… Some Europeans.

Their supply lines and manufacturing facilities are spread throughout the world. Their IP and know how is likewise in the cloud and spread out around the world.

If Russia decided to strike ASML with an Oreshnik tomorrow, it would take a year or two to rebuild capabilities and start making UEV machines in America or elsewhere, but it wouldn’t be the same kind of blow as taking out For example TSMC or Microsoft/Google.

Just a reminder to all our new friends coming in, Russia has a shitload of Asia Russians. Most of their land mass is in Asia. Bordering Mongolia and China. Yakuts in Siberia are just straight up Asian. So if a Uke sees a singular "North Korean" it's probably good ol' fashioned racism as all chinks look the same.

To be fair I've never tried playing hearts of Iron 4 under the influence of cocaine, if I ever do I'll let you guys know if its anything like his leadership.

or it could be another sighting of that South Korean merc that's in their ranks right now.

Azov regard themselves as an even harder SS turned up to 11. Remember how the SS acted when even they knew the war was lost? Everyone must die not just the enemy, the German people didn't fight hard enough to be allowed to live.

I guess they shouldn't have substituted Z-bros pervitin ritalin with coke, that must've been their error...
