Back in the 1930s around the time the electric blender was invented, I would have to spend about $30 based on information I found about them. Of course that's $30 in 1937 dollars. Adjusting for inflation, that's $675 dollars today. Most people will pay to have a $600 appliance repaired, but a $30 appliance will be thrown out because the labor cost to fix it likely exceed the cost of replacing it. Even if a person were to repair it themselves, it would likely take longer to receive replacement parts than to buy a replacement.
And the only reason they cost so much was because they couldn't figure out how to get the costs down. People are shocked when i tell them printers in the 90s cost over a million dollars, Xerox printers cost so much they had to invent the whole "pay per page" model in order to get costs down low enough for corporations to buy them in the 1960s. Its also the reason Kinkos was able to exist as a business, paper was so fucking expensive to print that a middle man could get huge from passing on the cost savings to customers.

a printer only costing $1999 plus ink was considered a huge breakthrough in the early 90s for home printing thats how fucking much it cost. most products not made overseas were similarly hilariously expensive. once free trade got in your got sub-$200 dollar printers but tons of people were repairing printers as a career because of how fucking expensive it was to even buy these fucking things.

the same way pre-digital cameras you had tons of places to develop photos because the costs would have been insane for most people to have in their homes.
. We're Americans. Where supposed to be rowdy.
PASS THE MUSTARD

70 IQ mental midget here, if every single country has the same amount of tariffs as the US don't they basically just cancel each other out? Like if we had 25% tariffs on Canada and Canada had 25% on the US for example.
That’s how you actually force free trade.

Trump is repealing social security taxes, as if the boomers didn't need yet another thing they got this to. The justification was that this was to help poor old people who can't work and are on a fixed income but the issue is that social security tax brackets were already structured in such a way that those people basically paid nothing anyways this only benefits wealth retirees on social security.

Social security is America's biggest source on spending and is bankrupting the country. At least with Military spending there is te benefit that things like treaties, arms sales and the better rtrade deals that come along with the increased presitage make it worth it. You can debate about that but there is the case to be made.

what does social security do for America as a country long term ?

Read this article about how boomer dominance has enabled low birth rates, mass migrartion and leftistm

The idea is it discourages foreign markets from interfering by making it costly to participate. The winner of a trade war is the country with the strongest independent economy because the foreign markets will move to domestic production to get around it.
