Death Stranding - Hideous Kojumbo does it again

As a passionate RL hiker, I appreciate the "walking simulator" captures the fun of hiking. Choosing the right ground, keeping your balance, and fighting through the wind and rain. I avoid using UI paths, because I want the fun of orienteering.
I'm not too deep in the game yet, I'm about to depart the first region. I hear you don't get a replacement trike until far later, so it was very intense trying to navigate my smoking piece of junk back to a repair hub. The ghosts are less of a problem now that I've got real weapons to use against them, Despite being a chimp at heart, throwing poop isn't my thing.
I hope the game's story is as shit as the first one so I can laugh while i watch someone else play it.
I've watched the 22 min long trailer and have no fucking idea what's going on.

Yeah, I love and adore this game. Something about it just hits right for me, especially it's just you, your cargo and the route ahead. A little bit of the magic is lost as you get more technology and tools, but that's kind of inevitable.

I'll never try to change anyone's mind if they bounce off the game though. I've yet to see anyone who thinks it's just "okay".

I never went back to the game after listening to Kojima's podcast, and his guest was complaining about needing to be online for some kind of multiplayer shit to efficiently get roads built or whatever, and I didn't wanna be punished for not doing that. It was confusing but kind of interesting for a bit though, but the stealth didn't feel food either, trying to avoid the ghost things.

You don't have to engage with the online at all. In fact the online system makes the game incredibly easy.

I still don't fully understand what it's even like, mind explaining it?
The game is you delivering packages through certain difficulties of terrain. You need ladders, rope, bridges, roads, misc equipment, etc. to succeed. All of which can be bought/found in the world. This is the same if you're online or offline.
When you DO connect to the online, the game puts you into an instance with a handful of other players, and you will be able to see and use some (not all) of their bridges, ladders, vehicles, etc.
This can come in very handy in parts and makes you feel more "connected", but it makes the game incredibly easy because lots of things are already built and littered across the landscape.

Just to elaborate a little further, the game doesn't spawn in anything you haven't got access to - so, say, ziplines won't be appearing until you've unlocked and used them. Similarly, nothing will spawn in certain areas until you've progressed your own storyline into them; the first (or even few, depending how fussy the location is) delivery will always be something you do with your own tools and no outside help.

If you spam "Likes" on other players' structures the game will weigh their other items towards you in future. I have a bit of an autistic connection to someone else, and it's very obvious we're building our shit in conjunction with one another despite the lack of direct communication.

Didn't Kojimbo refuse to add guns or vehicles to the game originally but ended up adding them later in the "Director's Cut"?

Didn't play far enough to know. I only got past the first ghost encounter and returned to the base or whatever.

This'll sell like eggfarts just like the first one did, and only turned a profit from going to PS5 and PC.

Well, I completed it.
It's a enjoyable game, and it is great they tried to create a new genre.
I'd strongly recommend it, but try to pace yourself to keep it fresh.

The worldbuilding is coherent and meshes well with gameplay. The narrative is excellent, but OMG, the ending goes on far too long.
Massive Endgame spoilers.
You reach Princess Beach.
Then, you fight a skyscraper tall ghost.
Then, you fight Higgs, in a three stage emotionally compelling bossfight.
Then, There's a long cutscene concluding things,
Then, You have a long stormy trek back to the origin city. (I liked this part, as it fitted well with the meat of the game.)
Then, You are whisked off to undead Vietnam to get closure with your father, Okay, tieing up threads, I get it.
Then, a high stakes extremely difficult delivery mission, where you race to save your beautiful ally.
Then, You can't deliver the water-vunerable package because a monster whale is flying overhead.
Then, Yet another long cutscene, and walking gameplay credits
Then More and more cutscenes
Then Finally some gameplay delivering the baby to the incinerator
Then Yet more cutscenes
Then Another long unskippable credits
Finally... You can continue playing properly.
Princess, Higgs fight, short extinction cutscene, then the long hard race to save you friend, with voiceovers instead of cutscenes, final dad fight at hospital interlaced with Diehardman arc, Lou's pod is then damaged and she resuscitates surrounded by your allies, thus completing the fatherhood arc concisely and saving everyone 3 hours of cutscenes/bullshit.
Here's a good video on the gameplay experience.

This, though I like how they aren't accessible the first time you are in the area.
Guns have always been in the game, but you are discouraged from using them because dead bodies can cause voidouts which lead to game-overs.
Even the bandits only rough you up and steal your stuff if they beat you.

It's funny. Back before the 1st game came out I was hyped from the teasers and figured I'd find the gameplay mid but love the story. Instead I wound up liking the story less and less (not helped by the Rick and Morty promo for the game) as time has gone on but wound up loving the gameplay for its detailed traversal mechanics and making a metagame out of how best to get from point A to point C with a whole lot of unfriendly point B in-between.

Same thoughts on TLOU2, oddly enough. When I heard that game had a roguelike mode, I thought to myself that I'd be all over that...If Naughty Dogs shilling the crap story and shitting on their audience hadn't happened.

I almost want to get it if it goes on deep sale but even giving a penny to Cuckmann makes me feel gross. Ditto with Kojima---Death Stranding made me realize that while I love Metal Gear I don't necessarily love Kojima. By any measure.

I can't believe we went from The Boss, Quiet, and The BB Squad to this thing.
Speaking of MGS, Kojimbo is so out of ideas that he made a new character that looks like Snake.
