A combination of Ethan Klein's thread being featured for his expose of reddit snark subs as well as the reddit alogs thread has reminded me of my time on reddit from 2016-2020 and seeing just how absolutely awful it got in real time.
Besides all the high-level issues (snark subreddits operating with impunity even when they harass people, brigade subreddits going on a decade with no punishment, no mechanism for punishing bad moderation, astroturfing, etc) I think a lot of it comes down to the fact that Steve Huffman is a weak coward who can't make a stand for anything. He allowed child porn subreddits, he allowed brigading subreddits, he allowed the current powermod fiefdom, and he allowed trannies and other spergs to rape his platform to death because he's a retard with no spine and no beliefs. He can't even make his company profitable after 20 years of operation and his pitiful attempt to do so via IPO is cratering. It has never crossed his mind to take a stand on the people and things that are actively making his platform worse because he has no soul.
The only time Huffman makes a choice is to save face after the media reports on his company embarrassing itself, in which case his response is hurried and half-assed. The only time I can remember him attempting something controversial is his defense of r/NoNewNormal and he still folded almost immediately when his unpaid volunteer force called him mean names. He lives like a cuckold.
