What songs do you feel are utterly perfect in its craftsmanship? My definition of a perfect song is something that genuinely affects you emotionally and each time you relisten to it, those emotions still remain within you. I'm a sucker for songs that gives you a sense of emotional longing, no matter the subject matter or genre, so here are some of my picks.

Smashing Pumpkins - Mayonaise.

Big Thief - Change.

The Notorious B.I.G. - Everyday Struggle.

However, sometimes when I'm not even looking at emotionally pressing music, there are songs that truly do capture the talent of someone and it's still something you can play over and over; and still be amazed on what you've heard.

Led Zeppelin - The Rover.

Drive Like Jehu - Super Unison.

Boards of Canada - 1969.

Of course, no matter what, music is a subjective artform so I know there are songs that you think are perfect while others would heavily differ. Remember, music elitism is a gay and retarded so I mean in a civil musical discourse really.

Elliott Smith - St. Ides Heaven.

Weezer - Say It Ain't So.

LCD Soundsystem - Us V Them.

No matter what, my definition of a perfect song is different from yours and that's okay. What do you call a perfect song? Discuss.

Hallowed By Thy Name by Iron Maiden

I Appear Missing by Queens of the Stone Age

Sunday Morning Coming Down by Johnny Cash (originally written by Kris Kristofferson)

Corduroy by Pearl Jam

Starman by David Bowie

Tornado of souls by Megadeth

Every time I put it on I just want to drive until I run out of road. Everybody was firing on all cylinders for ten minutes straight in Achilles, and I consider it to be their best work. Summer evenings driving up and down the hills to this are the best, and I know when I put it on I just refilled the tank and am on a long drive to wherever it is I'm going.

I like to view music through a pop lens, and in that sense, a perfect song is one that is well-constructed & immediately appealing. They're impressive in the same way that a nice piece of architecture is impressive. I'll leave out the obvious picks and list a few of my personal deep cut favourites.

The Olivia Tremor Control - Jumping Fences
Teenage Fanclub - Sparky's Dream
Jellyfish - Joining a Fan Club
The Only Ones - Another Girl, Another Planet
Pulp - Disco 2000
Hot Chip - Boy From School
Calamine - Flicker
Pinback - Tripoli

There's also a second category for songs that are so singular and unimitable that judging them in terms of quality feels wrong, so they win "best in category" by default.

Richard Dawson - Ogre
Dismemberment Plan - Sentimental Man (& The Ice of Boston -- this band is so so good)
Talking Heads - Born Under Punches
LCD Soundsystem - Losing My Edge
The Human League - Being Boiled

To me the perfect song is Paegan Love Song by Acid Bath, it's one of their more melodic songs but I really love everything about it.
I'm also really surprised that this lyric video stayed up on youtube for so long, because Rotten Records are dicks and nuke Acid Bath's music off the net.
I'm also gonna archive the lyric video here because I really like it and it could disappear any day now. FUCK YOU ROTTEN RECORDS! PIRACY EPIC WIN!

Iron Maiden - Run to the Hills

Motörhead - Sympathy For The Devil

Peter Scholes - Sympathy For The Devil

The Cranberries - Zombie

Motörhead - 1916

Gordon Lightfoot - The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald

In no particular order,

I love the electric/industrial feel in this song, in the later parts of the song it almost sounds like auto-tune but it's used in a way to make the voice uneasy like a liar which fits perfectly with the song (Lügen is German for lie)
Incredibly underrated musician. Most people haven't heard of him but his hit song "I Put a Spell on You" has been covered by literally dozens of others. That's definitely his most popular song but Ashes is a certified banger.

This next one is from another underrated band, Cancerslug. They do a range of genres, mostly around rock/punk/metal and the lyrics can be pretty obscene. Kind of like musical equivalents of 80s slasher films. This song is much more melodic and lyrically tamed though. Still, if you enjoy it check out the rest of their works, they have two greatest hits albums (Essentials Volume I and II on Spotify and Apple Music). I've been pushing this band onto anyone who will listen lol.

There are many maiden song I think are better and some also perfect like hallowed but revelations just gives me such distinct palpable feelings.
Incredibly silly song from an astonishingly silly rock opera but the way it sound is masterful.
one of the most moving and beautifully morose songs ever written and it's from a rock opera where a guy goes to musical executive prison for killing a mechanical pig covered in marital aids by giving it a golden shower after joining L Ron hoovers robot sex cult.

Here are some I could think of

Break Stuff by Limp Bizkit is a perfect song.
You might disagree but you are wrong.
You can't come up with anything other than some variation of "I personally don't like it therefore it's bad."
The instrumental and the lyrics are perfect for what it is.
It defined a whole subgenre of rock music.
As far as angry white guy music goes, this might be the best one ever made.

FUCK I had this brewing in my head as a thread idea weeks ago. Is this a spiritual ninja?

I even had this in mind as a opener.
It's weird, because Hello Everything is my personal favorite overall album of Jenkinson's, but I've never felt myself decide any piece of music was "perfect" as fast as I have with this.
