even Biden only got in because he had more experience than the rest of the field combined and called in all the favors; polls showing he was the only one of the field that black people actually tolerated helps a lot too. If you go back to the polls and news and opinion pieces, people thought Biden was a has-been and a relic until the south carolina primary showed how little non-whites cared for bernie/warren/pete/bloomberg/etc. he got more votes than the rest of the clown card combined, plus key civil rights leaders endorsements and the rest is history.
by all accounts the republicans, especially the bush-era ones in charge were constantly pulling the john roberts and keeping shit from actually improving in this country. there's a reason we're seeing so few people talk about how great Reagan is anymore. At best you'll see people talk about Nixon because his tapes sound a lot like modern podcasts, but policy wise republicans seemed to be worse than democrats in terms of accomplishing things republicans want. Just looking at how republicans were president for almost the entire cold war era, its rather telling that it didn't do shit for this country, the march through institutions mainly occurred during that era with the pushback only starting once Clinton got in office.
So far, two of the things he's working on - the reforms he's pushing on the bad faith interpretation of the 14th Amendment and the NGO defunding, could have the most significant impact out of almost anything. Cutting the knees out of the illegal pipeline has huge benefits (less crime, more money for Americans, etc) but it destroys the Democrat's long term plans for a replacement electorate. Short term, almost the entirety of the Democrat/Left grift machine has been funded through these NGOs with tax dollars, keeping agitators, lawyers, and other aspects of their political control machine going - even if somehow a Democrat wins in 2028 it'll take all four years to rebuild those things again, maybe. If Trump and the Republicans can get in some security and election integrity to halt voter fraud (which already relies on illegal populations and NGO funding) then it might be the death knell for Democrats - for decades.
The ATF still exists and the FBI/CIA has been proven too rotten to just reform. I get he is afraid of just nuking them, but he really should just pull off the bandage.

Reps controlled the Presidency, but Dems held the House until '94, and only got the Senate during most of Reagan's terms. Doesn't really change your point, it was just they had the excuse of Dems blocking them.
