I think a lot of idiots in the navy join hoping to not be on a boat, but then discover that getting on the boat is mandatory and that it sucks really bad. Science people getting on the boat and then the boat goes underwater and stays underwater for days and you're not allowed out of this metal coffin to even see the sun is devastatingly harsh to most people. NEETs might make good sub crew ironically, if you could train them and give them internet access off shift.also the navy has the highest suicide rate in the uniformed services and her unit (nuclear engineering) has the highest suicide rate of the navy.
I spent a few summers in a booth at a flea market that was long and cramped like a sub, truly difficult workspace when people are assholes.
