Cause: fatness.

She went in for the flu and they took one look at her and said "Jeez ma'am, you're way too fat for us to let you leave. It would be medically irresponsible, and frankly cruel to innocent people to force them to look at you. We're going to have to lock you in the fat ward"

Unfortunately after a number of weeks in the ward they realized she was simply too fat to be fixed, to even attempt it would bankrupt them, so they were forced to cut her loose.

Very sad, but that's life.
Some people are simply too fat to be redeemed.
